“Getting Older Quicker” : LISTEN
Los Angeles’ Among Savages releases the haunting and provocative sin. le Getting Older Quicker” off of their forth coming album Accounts of Friend and Foe slated for 7/21.
Among Savages is an evolving musical about one man’s coming to terms with the trials and treasures of a fading youth. Calling on an eclectic mix of literary and musical influences, frontman Peter Barbee uses surprising and unorthodox orchestrations to paint an intimate portrait of his own struggles with evolution, identity, and self actualization.
“Getting Older Quicker” is the third single to be released from the forthcoming album Accounts of Friend and Foe due out on July 21. The two subsequent singles “If You See Her” and “What Goes Around,” have been praised for their eclectic and intricate orchestrations which have come to be Barbee’s signature. Glamglare said that “If You See Her””….evolves like a great movie or a wonderful novel, with a prelude, different plot-points, a climax, lots of suspense in-between and the grand finale of course. There are lots of interesting rhythm and instrumentation going on and the impressive vocals lend the track depth and sparkle.” and the Creators Project said “If You See Her” “just might be your next summer jam. The slick alt-pop song, made great by smooth vocals and a danceable beat, is sexy in itself, but its new music video brings the vibe to new levels.”
Hilly Dilly stated that “With its heartfelt strings, somber keys, and chilling drums, “What Goes Around” is certainly a darker song. Among Savages’ vocal distortion on it feels natural and well-executed, as does the culminating hook posing the eternal question ‘Why does love have to be so hard?’”
With “Getting Older Quicker” Barbee has taken on the taboo topic of aging and the harsh realities of being human. The song is an honest reflection on the dark realities of aging and mortality, done through delightfully creepy and left of center orchestrations.
