Kate Crash & the UFO Club
Equal parts performance artist, pop singer, anime character and fashion muse, Kate Crash cut her teeth as a mime on the streets of Tokyo. In 2010, Crash caught the attention of legendary rocker Joan Jett and signed to Blackheart Records for an EP. In the most post-modern of ways, Crash is enthusiastically allover the map. Her Influences include electro-house, glam, punk, indie-pop, and Kabuki Theater. This newest project Kate Crash & the UFO is a melting pot of Crash’s enthusiasm and influences and a project she describes as“…an alien rock band from the future.”
Kate Crash and the UFO Club’s influences come from music, art, fashion and theatre. David Bowie’s combination of performance art and theater, and perfect song writing is the natural muse and source of inspiration. Live the UFO Club strives for the chaos, rawness danger and presence of Iggy , Hole and the Riot Grrl diy movement, Jacques Brel’s phenomenal lyrics and facial interpretations of emotion, and the guitar feedback of the Birthday Party that Crash says“…makes you wanna roll around on the floor and gouge the panthers eyes out.”
Kate Crash & the UFO Club are a force to be reckoned with, a positive force. Through their music Kate Crash and the UFO Club are looking for the listeners world to collide into theirs with lot’s of love, fun, a hint of chaos and for the listener to constantly questions the illusions of our world’s unreality. The songs on the groups debut EP Play It Hard are Crash’s interpretation of our planets strange chaos. Distant dreams, visions of beauty, and destruction slip off of Crash’s tongue, into beats that make up this current EP that was Executive Produced by long time collaborator Nick Lanuay (the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Nick Cave, Arcade Fire). Lanuay who initially discovered Kate, has been long time mentor and collaborator. “He has really developed me as an artist and has given me loads of ideas on how to challenge myself and be a better artist,” says Crash. This body of work showcases the pure essence of Kate Crash & the UFO Club, from the chaotic beat driven “Play It Hard,” the anthemic “WTF Am I,” and pure fun club ready track “Bored out of My Mind.” Kate and her UFO Club are ready to crash through walls, hearts and minds to make you lose yourself, if even just for a moment, to make you smile and most importantly to make you dance.
