THE BONES OF J.R. JONES ANNOUNCES RELEASE DATE OF ‘SPIRIT’S FURNACE’ NEW ALBUM OUT 4/15 AND TOUR DATES WITH G. LOVE & SPECIAL SAUCE
“The New York songwriter and multi-instrumentalist doesn’t shy away from incorporating seemingly disparate genres into his music, with the end result falling somewhere between early, bluesy Black Keys and the punk-infused folk of Possessed by Paul James.” – The Bluegrass Situation
Brooklyn’s Jonathon Linaberry, who writes and records as The Bones of J.R. Jones is excited to announce the release his second full length album Spirit’s Furnace, due out on April 15th, and available for pre-order through Pledge Music.

Spirit’s Furnace is a crisp 9 song follow up to The Bones of J.R. Jones’ debut full length album, Dark Was the Yearling, released in 2014. With Spirit’s Furnace, the line between the man, Jonathon Linaberry, and the persona, The Bones or J.R. Jones has become harder to define With this album, the reserved and notoriously private Linaberry gives the listener a small peak into the world of the man who created The Bones of J.R. Jones, by infusing his personal life and personal experiences into the songwriting. These personal stories are then twisted through the dark musical spectrum of The Bones of J.R. Jones, which is what fuels the fire of Spirit’s Furnace.
Linaberry’s music and sound started to take shape when he was living in upstate New York where he didn’t know any other musicians. These unlucky circumstance ended up shaping the sound and identity of his one man band and persona, The Bones of J.R. Jones. Linaberry initially got into music through the in the hardcore punk scene. His deep seeded love for classic folk and blues, started to develop after being given a collection of albums entitled “American Roots Music” by his Father. The very same thing that drew him to the punk scene drew him to these albums, the idea and promise of timeless music, the kind uncontaminated by passing trends.
With Spirit’s Furnace Linaberry remains a disciple of 20th Century Folk and Blues artists like Blind Lemon Jefferson and Lightnin’ Hopkins, the influences of which have come to define his sound, but his growth as a musician is evident in the more modern sounds and influences that have crept into this new body of work. From adding electric guitar, listening to artists like Sylvan Esso, to even incorporating elements of pop music, Linaberry is casting a much wider musical net with The Bones of J.R. Jones on Spirit’s Furnace, finding that delicate balance of creating music that is fresh and new, but familiar at the same time.
The Bones of J.R. Jones will be playing songs from this new record out on tour this Spring supporting G. Love & Special Sauce, ending in New York on April 15th with a record release show at the Mercury Lounge.
“He’s a one man band who can hold an audience rapt, rendering the cacophony of a stage full of musicians utterly unnecessary.” – NOISEY/VICE
