SYDNEY, AUS - Hot off the heels of her AIR Awards nomination for Best Pop Album/EP, Western Sydney indie artist Imogen Clark will release her cathartic new single ‘Nonchalant’, which also celebrates reaching the halfway point of her mammoth ‘100 Shows in 100 Days’ tour.
“An unfiltered and unapologetic assertion of self-worth, Imogen Clark’s dynamic new single ‘Nonchalant’ soars with passion and charged energy as sets her spirit free.” – Atwood Magazine
The new single, already a live favourite, sees Imogen in the producer chair for the first time, along with co-writer Sam Phay (a respected artist and producer in his own right), determined to bring the intensity of the song’s emotional core to the track.
“I wrote this song with Sam and Demi Louise at the start of the year, burning with turmoil over this guy who was keeping me on the hook and watching me squirm. It was tearing me apart and I brought that energy into the session,” Imogen recalls. “Every time I’ve played this live, women come up to me and tell me I need to release it, so I decided to get this out there for all the people who need a place to put their feelings about a fuckboy in their life”.
‘Nonchalant’ is the follow up to acclaimed single ‘Enemy’, a star-studded co-write with Alex Lahey that featured Adam Newling, members of Middle Kids and Superorganism and production by Joji Malani aka Pei. The release of ‘Enemy’ kicked off Imogen’s gargantuan ‘100 Shows in 100 Days Tour’, a sprawling trek across Australia that has so far seen her play everywhere from Newcastle to Cowra, Melbourne to Mudgee, Brisbane to Gippsland and many more places besides, mixing high octane full band sets with intimate solo performances and a sprinkling of surprise pop-up shows (like a protest set outside Kirribilli House in the lead up to the Federal Election) and full production online gigs for her international fans.
Many more dates are still to come across Bathurst, Melbourne, Central Coast, Tamworth and more before the epic tour wraps up in Adelaide on Wednesday 3 August.
“Getting back on the road, playing all these shows, seeing you all out there singing along… it’s like a rebirth, my soul coming back to life!” says Imogen.
It's the most ambitious project yet from an artist who has spent the most challenging two years the music industry has ever faced refusing to rest on her laurels, releasing critically acclaimed EPs The Making of Me and Bastards, two Christmas singles, a live record and even touring, including sold out EP launch shows in Sydney and the first two editions of her now annual Holiday Hootenanny shows, featuring guests including Ali Barter, I Know Leopard, Mo’Ju and Montaigne.
Cutting her teeth playing in Western Sydney bars during her teen years before touring and recording around the world, from the US to Europe to the UK, Imogen brings the depth and confidence of a seasoned superstar to the stage despite her youth. Taking inspiration from legends like Bruce Springsteen and Joni Mitchell as much as contemporary heroes Maggie Rogers and Sam Fender, Imogen’s music continues to dissolve the barriers between her emotions and her audience.
