LAWRENCE, KS – I AM KAWEHI is a new breed of musician, a pop/electronic loop artist that Elle Magazine called “The Genius One-Woman Band” who uses technology to carry the weight of a full band on her own. After a long absence from tour due to the pandemic, I AM KAWEHI returns to the stage this fall beginning September 19th in Atlanta.
Earlier this summer, Kawehi performed three special shows in her native Hawai’i and recorded her own rendition of “Hawai'i '78” – made popular by Iz Kamakawiwo’ole – that has a deep personal connection for her. “I was lucky to be sent to Kaiapuni (Hawaiian immersion school) when I was young - it was a new adventure in learning, an immersion into the Hawaiian language where all classes were taught in Hawaiian,” she recalls. “I look at my roots as an immovable mountain - when all is gone, I’ll be found in you, still standing.”
With renewed energy and inspiration from her 2021 Hawai’i performances, Kawehi returns to the stage for a two-month headlining tour with new music expected this fall. Confirmed dates are below.
ABOUT KAWEHI
Raised in O’ahu, Hawai’i, Kawehi (pronounced Kuh-VAY-Hee) first pursued music by the encouragement of her piano teacher when she auditioned for the band East that took her from the islands to the mainland in Los Angeles. It is there that Kawehi began her DIY journey as a solo artist, honing her craft with producer/musician (and now husband) Paul Wight.
Since her debut release Songs From My Apartment, Kawehi has independently co-produced and co-written 6 EPs through crowdfunding on Kickstarter, and built an impressive following on social media.
She has done TED performances, was featured in a Super Bowl commercial, and with over 21 million views on her YouTube channel, Kawehi has been performing sold out shows across the nation and has already been on three world headlining tours.
