LOS ANGELES BAND LOVE GHOST RELEASE “OUTER SPACE” SINGLE

“ The L.A. rockers sound as bratty as any of multi-platinum miscreants who’ve had hits on KROQ, but they fall in more with the play-actin’ bad boys. What the song reflects, though, is having come of age in an era when popular culture glorifies materialism and hedonism, which makes it the saddest kind of parody: funny but true.” - Buzzbands

“Drawing on the grungy, hip-hop-meets-rock, sardonically sunny ‘90s, these guys come across as nostalgic – for those of us that remember the decade – but with enough modern shaping to remain original and fresh.” -V13

“….tinged in a backdrop of grunge, the song sounds perfectly tuned with just the right melodic atmosphere." - Grimy Goods

Introspective Los Angeles based band Love Ghost has released their grunge-inspired single "Outer Space." “When I was younger I would lay on our roof at night and look at the stars, thinking about escaping my problems,” lead singer and guitarist Finn Bell told Grimy Goods. “The vastness of space can humble and inspire you at the same time.” The song, like much of Bell’s songwriting, reflects and feeling like an outsider.  This song is the follow up to their last single, "I'll Be Fine" released for Mental Health Awareness month in May. The poignant track that mixed elements of trap and rock,  had a powerful reaction from fans for its honesty and rawness garnering over 500K streams on Soundcloud with 500+ comments, over 1 Million views on Youtube with 1,000 comments and over 387K streams on Spotify

“Love Ghost invite their listener into a dark and gritty underworld of trap, emo rap, and rock influences on ‘I’ll Be “Fine”’, an emotionally dense track that chimes and writhes with despondency, suspense and toxic emotions.” - When the Horn Blows

“  Intermingling rock, hip hop, and trap influences into their music, Love Ghost has captured the angst that most teens are experiencing these days.” - Ghettoblaster Magazine

This song is one of many produced for Love Ghost by Danny Saber (The Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper,  the Charlatans, Public Enemy etc.), for what will be two full EP's to be released this fall.  "I'll Be Fine" was the somber follow up to the lighthearted "Chasin Money and Bitches " single that was a comedic and hedonistic look on what it is that our culture values most, from the viewpoint of a teenager living in Los Angeles in 2020. Prior to that, the band released the grunge era-inspired  "Let It All Burn," with the accompanying scorcher of a video, directed by Dean Karr (Queens of the Stone Age, Mark Lanegan).  The song was featured on Spotify’s coveted "New Noise" playlist in addition to Apple’s "Breaking Hard Rock" and "Fresh Blood" playlists, having garnered over 1 Million streams since its release.

Love Ghost is Finnegan Bell (guitar and lead vocals), Ryan Stevens (bass and background vocals), Samson Young (drums and background vocals), Daniel Alcala (guitar) and Cory Batchler (keyboards). All of whom are fresh out of high school but have been playing together and writing songs since Junior High. Despite their young age, the band are seasoned international road warriors. Last year they toured Ireland, Japan, played the mainstage at Festival fff in Ambato, Ecuador, and most recently played a sold-out hometown show at Resident in Los Angeles. They have supported Buckcherry, Berlin, Smash Mouth, The Young Dubliners, The Tubes, Fuel, and Irish singer/songwriter Mundy. Their music videos have won numerous awards from over 30 film festivals around the world and the band was awarded Best Alternative Rock Band by the Hollywood Music in Media Awards and received The Jean Luc Goddard Award from Cult Critic Magazine.

“ZAYDE WØLF has slowly but surely started to take over the world.” - Alternative Addiction

LISTEN TO “RUN THIS TOWN”: HERE

Alt Rock chart topper Zayde Wølf has teamed up with hip hop artist Konata Small for the release of the epic new track “Run This Town.”  “Producer Al Cres had this dope sampled guitar riff and this rad jungle rhythm that felt so sick together,” says Dustin Burnett (aka Zayde Wølf). Then I heard this shouty group vocal chant followed by some nasty lines Konata had written. At that point I knew I had to find a way to sing on the track. The guys let me rework the chorus a little and help square up some additional production.”

“Perhaps the perfect description of ZAYDE is simply the dark rock child of Imagine Dragons and The Black Keys.” - Ones to Watch

ZAYDE WØLF is unconventional, in every sense of the word. Scrawling a poetic lyric on a massive pop-rock wall of sound--hinting at Imagine Dragons and Bastille influence.”  - Pop Dust

Konata Small has been on his grind for the better part of a decade. As a member of acclaimed hip-hop trio Rhema Soul, he toured the world, became a regular presence on the national conference circuit, and released five lauded albums. His music has been featured on Netflix, HBO, Showtime MTV, and many others. On his debut project  Est. 1997, Konata proved once again that he is a force. Featuring masterful production by Al Cres (Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, BEAM) that spans the gamut of boom bap and trap soul, Konata is at his best and most self-actualize. He knows who he is and where he is going.

“Run this Town” is ripe for our times. “ Identity is everything, “ says Konata, “you must know who you are to make a lasting impact.  We must decide to take control of our future in spite of stereotypes, agendas, and obstacles. We’re gonna RUN this town.“

With ZAYDE WØLF, Burnett has built a reputation for music that inspires, motivates and most importantly connects. His latest full-length album Modern Alchemy charted in over 25 countries on the iTunes overall charts and debuted in the top ten Alternative charts here in the U.S. Since he started releasing music just a few short years ago, the ZAYDE WØLF has grown to 217K YouTube subscribers, 70 million views, and his music has been streamed over 30 million times.  His musical success has led to placements in hundreds of films, TV shows, trailers, commercials, and video games. The list includes Shameless, Skyscraper movie, Love-Simon movie, the Jack Reacher 2, The Maze Runner 3, Pride Prejudice & Zombies, spots for UFC, MLB, NFL, Dodge, Jeep, WWE, Xbox, NBA, and more. Burnett has also creatively expanded his reach by cultivating relationships with partners such as Dude Perfect, one of the top YouTube sports channels with over 40 Million subscribers and 7 Billion views. "I get all these emails, sometimes one a week,” Burnett told Billboard, “with all these stories about how the music has moved people in some way. I wanted to continue to make music for people to be inspired by." Most recently Burnett has been getting notes about how his music has been a beacon of light shining through the heavy cloud of uncertainty the world finds itself in.  “Your songs are pure power, and are helping this immunocompromised family navigate such strange times, and to appreciate what's important,” read an email that came in from Australia. “We are all definitely living life like we never have....”

SHELTER IN PLACE BORN PROJECT ATWATER PUNX RELEASE THEIR DEBUT EP THE FLEA DRAWS BLOOD

QUARANTINE BORN FAMILY PROJECT ATWATER PUNX

RELEASE THEIR DEBUT EP THE FLEA DRAWS BLOOD

Atwater Punx EP Cover.jpg

LISTEN TO THE FLEA DRAWS BLOOD : HERE

Los Angeles band Atwater Punx, named after their Atwater Village neighborhood have released their debut EP The Flea Draws Blood, out today worldwide.

Atwater Punx is the brainchild of Stacy  (American Hi-Fi, Letters to Cleo etc.)  and Kristen Wagner Jones (Shut Up Stella, Bullet & Snowfox). Both Jones’ have spent their careers making music, but it was the birth of their son Waylon that drove them to make music together. The couple started to put together ideas around Waylon’s naptime and after he went to bed in their home studio. The shelter in place orders issued in Los Angeles, where the couple lives, trigger their creativity and with the forced time off they finished the first three Atwater Punx songs inspired by bands like The Clash and Bikini Kill.

“‘Ghost Town’ has elements of bands like Rancid mixed with some of the dance-punk of Le Tigre, but combined with the more pop side of things that Jones has been dabbling in lately.” - If It’s Too Loud

They released their first single, “Ghost Town” earlier this month. The song, like the project, was inspired by being in quarantine and is about the isolation and disconnection of a once busy city turned quiet and nearly completely still, overnight.

“Melding together aggressive keys with Stacy and Kristen’s razor-sharp vocal, “Ghost Town” packs a punch upon first listen and has listeners hitting replay for more.’ - Culture Collide

The driving and adrenaline-filled track “Annie”, is about the angst, energy, and aggression of youth, and the crushing third track “Drums of Death,” a hybrid of ‘Check Your Head’ era Beastie Boys and the noise-pop sound of Sleigh Bells, pays homage to a fearless female protagonist. A born fighter who is a true adversary to anyone standing in her path.

Atwater Punx continue to be inspired and are working on new music. Stay tuned!

ATWATER PUNX RELEASE DEBUT SINGLE "GHOST TOWN"

SHELTER IN PLACE BORN PROJECT ATWATER PUNX RELEASE THEIR DEBUT SINGLE

“GHOST TOWN”

Atwater Punx.jpg

LISTEN TO “GHOST TOWN” : HERE

Los Angeles band Atwater Punx have released their debut single "Ghost Town” off of their forthcoming  EP The Flea Draws the Blood that comes out 5/28.

Atwater  Punx is the brainchild of family duo Stacy  (American Hi-Fi, Letters to Cleo etc.)  and Kristen Wagner Jones (Shut Up Stella, Bullet & Snowfox). Both Stacy and Kristen are lifelong musicians.  The couple have each spent their entire careers making music apart, but it was the birth of their son that drove them to  make music together. After their song Waylon was born they started putting together ideas around toddler nap times and after bedtime in their home studio. When the shelter in place orders hit Los Angeles, their creativity kicked into overdrive and they hunkered down to finishing a batch of songs sonically inspired by bands like The Clash and Bikini Kill, naming the project Atwater Punx after their neighborhood, Atwater Village.

“Ghost Town,” the first single off the three song EP is about the isolation and disconnection of a once busy city turned quiet and nearly completely still, overnight. The song is steeped in the heaviness of the collective struggle to overcome what will most likely be one of the biggest challenges of our lifetime.

Kristen Wagner Jones was a part of the alternative pop group, Shut Up Stella signed to Epic Records in 2006 and shot a pilot for MTV that documented the making of their debut album. The group disbanded in 2010, after which Jones started her own indie-dance-rock band, Bullet & Snowfox, with guitar player, Josh Shapiro. The band played around the LA club scene, festivals, LA Fashion week and their music was featured on numerous film and TV shows.  This new Atwater Punx release marks Wagner Jones’s first foray back into music since becoming a mom and her first collaboration with husband, Stacy Jones.

Stacy Jones got his start as the frontman and main songwriter for American Hi-Fi, who had the 2001 hit “Flavor of the Weak.” After the peak of the American Hi-Fi days his career took the most unlikely of turns into being a touring and studio drummer and a Music Director. Thirteen years in Jones is one of the most in-demand music directors in his field - working with chart-topping artists like Miley Cyrus, Noah Cyrus, 5 Seconds of Summer,  the Chainsmokers and Troye Sivan among others.  In addition to the MD work, he still works as a drummer,  writer, musician, producer and tours consistently.  He is an active member of his bands American Hi-Fi, and Letters to Cleo, and has been the touring drummer for Matchbox Twenty since 2012.  Last year he did double duty on the Letters to Cleo fall tour, opening with his band American Hi-Fi then playing drums with the headlining act, Letters to Cleo.

AUSTRALIAN SONGSTRESS IMOGEN CLARK RELEASES HER NEW SINGLE “FOUND ME” OUT TODAY

 AUSTRALIAN SONGSTRESS IMOGEN CLARK

RELEASES HER NEW SINGLE “FOUND ME” OUT TODAY

+ ANNOUNCES NEW EP THE MAKING OF ME – OUT AUGUST 2020

LISTEN TO “FOUND ME” :  HERE

“With powerful vocals and an infectious drum beat, Clark sets out to cure a broken heart. This breakup anthem will pick you up off the floor, dust you off and have you feeling ready to start seeing the world in color once again.”  - PARADE MAGAZINE

Australian singer-songwriter, Imogen Clark today releases a brand new single ‘FOUND ME’, her first new music in two years and the first taste of her The Making Of Me six-track EP, which is due out in August (Potts Entertainment/MGM).

“Found Me” was written with Clare Bowen (who also sings harmonies on the track) and Brandon Robert Young; it’s an uplifting track that highlights Imogen’s soaring vocals. Recorded in LA and produced by Mike Bloom (Jenny Lewis, Rilo Kiley,  Julian Casablancas, Jonathan Rice, Rachael Yamagata), the song represents the songstress’ personal evolution from vulnerable to confident, the journey of finding strength and power in chaos and heartbreak.

Cutting her teeth playing in local pubs in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales Australia before taking the stage with artists like Shania Twain, Ian Moss and Willie Watson, Imogen has worked relentlessly over the past decade, building up her musical chops. She has worked with Mark Lizotte (Diesel), Kasey Chambers and Jim Lauderdale and now cites Benmont Tench (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello and the Attractions) amongst her collaborators, both appearing on the new The Making Of Me EP.

The songs on this EP are the by product of a year that found Imogen picking up the pieces and putting together a new version of herself.  A huge part of the process of making this EP, and this song, in particular, was allowing herself to embrace imperfections, and make the kind of music that she had previously been too afraid to pursue due to outside forces trying to fit her into someone else’s idea of what is authentic. “I wrote this song at one of my lowest points - fatigued, heartbroken and second guessing the most important decisions I’d made in my life, “ says Clark. “Writing this song gave me the strength to believe in myself again. It’s an empowerment anthem about making the tough decisions to become the person you need to be, and I hope it can relight some people’s fire in the midst of everything right now”.  Imogen has finally come to a point in her life where she stopped caring about the surrounding noise and outside opinions and is writing songs that represent all of who she is. She equally adores artists like Taylor Swift and  Bruce Springsteen and is now making the music that reflects that.

LISTEN TO “I GOT YOU”: HERE

Zayde Wølf has released an uplifting and powerful love song for our times “I Got You (End of the World).” “Two years for, I started writing this song during a very hard time in my life.” says Zayde Wølf mastermind Dustin Burnett. “I have been unsure if I should release such an honest relationship-pop-song. But things have changed since Covid-19 and life seems so fragile right now. It even feels like the end of the world sometimes. But through it all, we have each other. We have love, hope, and meaning... and we need to share those things. This song is all about that, it's about feeling the world is going crazy, but always having each other!” A portion of the proceeds from the song will go directly into the Music Health Alliance’s COVID-19 Relief Fund to assist musicians and music professionals who have been affected by the pandemic. Learn more about the Music Health Alliance HERE.

“With this electric and in your face musical creation he inspires us to speak up and follow your dreams. He embraces his own fire to give life to this soundscape as it unites melodies and lyrics to craft something that is sure to trigger something in all of us. The track comes as a breath of fresh air in these troubling times as it reminds us that we still have something to fight for once all of this is back to normal.”  - Wolf In A Suit (on “Let’s Go”)

“Here whispery intensity blossoms into a melodic and sonic tour de force as the song is triumphantly orchestrated.” - Parade Magazine  (on “Let’s Go”)

“ I Got You”  Zayde Wølf’s second new single this year and follows his triumphant return to releasing new music with, “Let’s Go,” his first new release of 2020. These two singles  succeed the “Reimagined” series that saw Burnett reinventing some of his biggest hits, including “New Blood  (Reimagined)” and “Oblivion (Reimagined).” The “Reimagined Series” pulled Burnett through a bout of writer’s block opening up a new well of creativity, forecasting an abundance of new music from Zayde Wølf for 2020.

“Zayde Wolf had the boldness to “take his launchpad song and make it better” (apologies to “Hey Jude”).......Zayde Wolf worked with Nick Box to reimage the single into an orchestral, cinematic force that demands and commands attention.”

Indie Obsessive (on “New Blood” Reimagined)

“Zayde Wolf‘s new rendition of their 2016 hit “New Blood” is nothing short of chilling.”

 - Apiate (on “New Blood” Reimagined)

With ZAYDE WØLF, Burnett has built a reputation for music that inspires, motivates and most importantly connects. His latest full-length album Modern Alchemy charted in over 25 countries on the iTunes overall charts and debuted in the top ten Alternative charts here in the U.S. Since he started releasing music just a few short years ago, the ZAYDE WØLF has grown to 203K YouTube subscribers, 63 million views, and his music has been streamed over 25 million times.  His musical success has led to placements in hundreds of films, TV shows, trailers, commercials, and video games. Los Angeles band Love Ghost have released their new single “Chasin’ Money and Bitches,” produced by Danny Saber (The Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper,  the Charlatans, Public Enemy  etc.)  with an accompanying video directed by Julian SK of SK Films (Alicia Keys. Soulja Boy, Rich the Kid and more).  The song is a comedic and hedonistic look on what it is that our culture values most, from the viewpoint of a teenager living in Los Angeles “‘Chasin’ Money & Bitches’ is supposed to be a fun song,” frontman Finnegan Bell told Buzzbands LA. “There’s a lot to be upset and distraught by right now. Coronavirus, politics, world hunger, mental illness, etc. This song is tongue-in-cheek, and I hope it provides relief and healing to anyone that’s suffering right now.”

The video follows the tongue in cheek narrative of the song following a group of teenagers through a day in the hyperbolic reality of carefree living, reminiscent of legendary music videos from Beastie Boys and the Foo Fighters, who take the music seriously but don’t take themselves seriously. “Right when I heard their music I was really drawn to the talent oozing out of every piece of the record, “ said the video’s diretor Julian SK of SK FIlms.  “Finn's voice is one of a kind and the instruments make you bang your head. We shot the video over a two day period in Los Angeles. We rented an old school whip and got pulled over by the police and kicked out of a liquor store on the first day, we didn't care because we knew we got some great footage. We wrapped the first day shooting in Boyle Heights at a house where Ty Dolla $ign filmed his video for ‘Stand For.’ The second day was the bigger day of the two, we had over 50 extras and actors. We did a whole classroom scene as well as a house show and party vibe on the soundstage. This shoot was one of the most fun I've had directing a music video and I couldn't be more excited for everyone to see it."

The song is the follow up to their breakout single, the grunge era-inspired  "Let It All Burn," part of a collection of songs all produced by Danny Saber and the scorcher of a video, directed by Dean Karr (Queens of the Stone Age, Mark Lanegan).  The song was featured on Spotify’s coveted "New Noise" playlist in addition to Apple’s "Breaking Hard Rock" and "Fresh Blood" playlists, having garnered over 1 Million streams since its release with close to half a  million streams on the video alone.

"There’s something cruelly superior about ‘Let It All Burn.’” - Rawckus Magazine

Love Ghost is Finnegan Bell (guitar and lead vocals), Ryan Stevens (bass and background vocals), Samson Young (drums and background vocals), Daniel Alcala (guitar) and Cory Batchler (keyboards). Although the band is young, barely in their 20’s, Love Ghost has been in existence since Bell was in Junior High, so their resume reads as that of bands twice their age. They have toured  Ireland, Japan,  Ecuador, played the mainstage at Festival fff in Ambato,  and have sold out shows in their hometown of Los Angeles. They have supported Buckcherry, Berlin, Smash Mouth, The Young Dubliners, The Tubes, Fuel, and Irish singer/songwriter Mundy. Their music videos have won numerous awards from over 30 film festivals around the world and the band was awarded Best Alternative Rock Band by the Hollywood Music in Media Awards, and received The Jean Luc Goddard Award from Cult Critic Magazine.

As with all touring bands, Love Ghost’s Spring tour was put on hold due to COVID-19 but the band will continue to release music throughout the Spring with plans for an EP this summer.

WILL DAILEY ANNOUNCES ISOLATION TOUR TO BENEFIT BOSTON VENUES

WILL DAILEY’S VIRTUAL ISOLATION TOUR LOOKS TO RAISE MONEY TO SUPPORT STAFF AT BOSTON AREA VENUES & BARS

Isolation Tour Poster.jpg

“He’s thinking about each person in his audience, and he’s thinking about the connection he has with them.”  - WGBH

Boston Musician and community organizer  Will Dailey has embarked on his Isolation Tour in support of local Boston venues and bars.  Two weeks ago Dailey  announced on his socials a  virtual  bar series, where he posts up and performs on a Livestream as viewers make online donations, with one specific venue as that “show’s” benefactor, as if he was physically performing in that particular room. His first three shows, that benefitted Great Scott, Toad and The Burren raised more than $4,300 thus far all of which will go to help support the staff at each venue. Tips can be made during each show (details HERE) all of which go to benefit the bar, sound and security staff at each venue.  “This all unfolded slowly for me because I had a 2020 tour in China coming together that fell through in late January,” Dailey tells Vanyaland. “I was set to travel to record but that was cancelled at the end of February. Any planning for mid summer to fall froze in its tracks last week. I don’t know when my next gig will be. I need to work now. Not only for money but also, my sanity. I keep in mind that the anxiety from all this can only be assuaged by focusing on the things that bring us peace.”

“How good is Will Dailey? He wrote a song called ‘When It Dies’ that magically uplifts. A gem of a melody sits at the center of a wonderfully musical mess with huge vocals — the man crushes you with the repeated refrain of ‘All we ever really want is not to be forgotten!’ All at once the tune recalls James Taylor’s simplicity, Ray LaMontagne’s intensity and Tom Waits’ weirdness. The rest of the new album, ‘Golden Walker,” possesses the same magic.” - The Boston Herald

MORE ON WILL DAILEY

In 2018 Will Dailey released his second independent record,  Golden Walker, a critically acclaimed and heady album initially intended to  be a handbook on accountability, but as the writing progressed it morphed into so much more.  Not only do the songs on Golden Walker, serve as social commentary, but they are meditations on life and the struggles, both internal and external, that come with aging and just plainly existing on the planet. The album was a follow up to National Throat, his indie debut, that went on to receive numerous awards including Album and Artist of the Year at the Boston Music Awards, Song of the Year and Producer of the Year at the New England Music Awards, Best of the Year by Improper Bostonian Magazine, debuted in the top 20 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, and garnered over 9 million streams on Spotify. In addition to being a wildly successful independent artist Will has become and artist advocate. He has taken to mentoring artists and developing programs like the Fenway Rooftop Sessions to create a space for independent and up and coming artists to exercise their craft, and to ensure that there is always a space for art to grow and thrive.

SLOW DAKOTA EXAMINES THE FUTURE USING FOLKLORE AND LEGAL PROWESS ON "COMING TO THE NUISANCE" SINGLE

Coming+to+the+Nuisance+Art+work.jpg

LISTEN TO “COMING TO THE NUISANCE” : HERE

“ In contrast with the space-y, almost post-rock sound of the song, Sauerteig’s vocals have a certain early 00s indie feel to them, think Ben Gibbard as a reference point.” - MXDWN

Slow Dakota the project from Chicago (by way of  New York and Indiana)  based songwriter and label owner Paul Sauerteig has released, “Coming to the Nuisance,”  the second single off his upcoming album Tornado Mass for Voice & Synthesizer due out May 1 on Massif Records.

Slow Dakota mastermind Paul Sauerteig, who is a practicing lawyer,  was in law school while writing this album was naturally super inspired by his surroundings....the law. “Coming to the Nuisance” is an old legal maxim that means,  if you know someone is loud and obnoxious and messy, you can’t move in next door and then sue them for being a loud and obnoxious and messy neighbor. You’ve “come” to the nuisance, and that’s your fault because you knew better.   “A song I wrote years ago, and a release date planned months ago – it’s a strange coincidence to release ‘Coming to the Nuisance’ right now, in our current and collective state of crisis,” Sauerteig told MXDWN . “After all, the song is about trying to prepare for a looming, mass disaster. Battening down the hatches. I had global warming in mind, but COVID-19 has stolen the show, I suppose. The song’s narrator is preparing for a disaster that he knows is coming, but no one around him takes it seriously – not even friends and neighbors. I had Noah in mind, from the old story of Noah’s Arc. He was shrugged off by his community, and no one wanted to wrap their heads around the “flood” he was warning them about. I think a lot of people feel like Noah today, for a lot of different reasons, in the bated breath before a lot of different floods.”

The name Slow Dakota comes from Sauerteig's great grandfather who spent final years in and out of hospitals and the occasional psychiatric institute. As his mental health started to deteriorate he began writing letters to The President of the United States, and would always sign them “Yours, Slow Dakota.," although having no relation to North or South Dakota.  During one family visit to the hospital when Sauerteig was only 5 or 6,  his great grandfather slipped him one of these letters and asked him to deliver it. The letter was addressed to President Lincoln. So,  years later, when Sauerteig began releasing music, Slow Dakota felt like an appropriate pen name. Long letters to no one.

Sauerteig’s music is known for blending baroque pop, folk, classical, and electronic influences like Vangelis and Sufjan Stevens. Sauerteig often employs "spoken word" interludes, and his lyrics fixate on myth, rural folklore, and fairy tale. In 2016, he was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Sauerteig began releasing music as Slow Dakota from his Columbia University dorm room in 2012. As an undergraduate, Sauerteig pursued Creative Writing and Psychology, and quietly released his first few albums: Our Indian Boy (2012), Bürstner and the Baby (2013), and The Junior EP (2015). While at Columbia, Sauerteig also founded a small record label, Massif Records, to release his own music, and the music of close friends – including the lovely Margaux. Sauerteig spent two years recording in various cities and tapped longtime producer, Sahil Ansari, and legendary mastering engineer, Greg Calbi for Tornado for Voice and Synthesizer. The album, which will be the fourth Slow Dakota full-length album, will be released on Sauerteig’s own label  Massif Records this spring.

ZAYDE WØLF RELEASES THE ANTHEMIC SINGLE “LET’S GO”

zaydewolf-letsgo-cover-smaller.jpg

 LISTEN TO “LET’S GO”: HERE

Zayde Wølf has released, the anthemic and hard-hitting single “Let’s Go.” "It's been a heavy start to 2020,” says  Zayde Wølf mastermind Dustin Burnett.  “I wanted to finish and release this song because I felt like we all needed something fun. I wear black most of the time, but I'm always trying to live in color... Let's Go!"

“Let’s Go” is the first original piece of music from Zayde Wølf this year and is the follow up to the “Reimagined” series that saw Burnett reinventing some of his biggest hits, including “New Blood  (Reimagined)” and “Oblivion (Reimagined).” Doing the “Reimagined Series” helped Burnett break through a bout of writer’s block opening up a new well of creativity.  “Last year I hit one of those songwriting walls,” says Burnett on how the concept of the series started. “I couldn’t get over it. No new idea seemed compelling. I was listening to a lot of soundtracks and started writing mini orchestral type themes and song ideas and mixing those with my older songs. The best news is that these reimagined songs have helped me break out of the creativity slump”  The release “Let’s Go” kicks off what will be a prolific year for Burnett, with news multiple songs and two full EP’s planned for release this year.

“.... whispery intensity blossoms into a melodic and sonic tour de force as the song is triumphantly orchestrated.” - PARADE MAGAZINE (on “New Blood : Reimagined”)

His musical success has lead placements in hundreds of films, TV shows, trailers, commercials, and video games. I wanted to continue to make music for people to be inspired by." Fans have gravitated to his music in the millions showing their devotion on social media with comments like, “ I love your music. It seriously gets me pumped up to face the day! So thank you! I hope one day I can see you live” (Steph K Mullins via Instagram), to “Thank you Mr. Wolf for creating music that has motivated, made me cry and joyous, the songs for my universe and so much more,” (Sage Asher via Instagram) and  “I listen to your music every day and my life is so much richer and happier because of it.” (Hannah Mae Hathway via Instagram).

“Oblivion’ is a beautifully layered and theatrical slow-burn that builds with stirring harmonies and intense instrumentals. It has all the makings of a sci-fi or superhero blockbuster movie soundtrack.” –Forbes Magazine (on the last reimagined track “Oblivion: Reimagined” )

In addition to Zayde Wølf, Burnett is also the co-owner of a drum sample and loops company called That Sound that has gone on to serve nearly 50,000 customers in over 30 countries around the world. This year the company has joined forces with the leading platform for music creation, Splice, whose users include over 3 million musicians — from Top 40 hitmakers to bedroom producers. The partnership enables That Sound to provide their signature sounds to Splice’s expansive global user base of music makers and creatives.

HIT SONGWRITER SHELLY PEIKEN REIMAGINES “WHAT A GIRL WANTS”

SONGWRITER SHELLY PEIKEN REIMAGINES

HER CHART-TOPPING ANTHEM

“WHAT A GIRL WANTS”

WAGW Shelly Peiken Cover art.jpg

LISTEN TO “WHAT A GIRL WANTS”: HERE

Twenty years ago songwriter Shelly Peiken ushered in the new millennium by penning it's very first #1 song, the feminist anthem "What A Girl Wants" which was the #1 song in the United States on January 1, 2000. Looking back now on what's transpired culturally when it comes to gender and gender roles, it's very poetic that "What A Girl Wants" marked the start of the 21st century. This year Peiken is celebrating her incredible career in music by revisiting some of her biggest hits and recording her own versions of her most beloved songs starting with “What a Girl Wants” which was released worldwide today.

After years of writing and working for other artists, Peiken sat back and thought "what does this girl want?" The answer to that question was simply to create, but this time for her herself.  Shelly does not see her age as an obstacle but as an advantage — she’s experienced life and is more comfortable talking about it than ever. Her desire to create is the same as anyone's: to express herself and to connect.

“Most of the words to ‘What A Girl Wants’ were written on a receipt at the bottom of my jacket pocket, says Peiken. “My co-writer Guy Roche was free-styling on the keyboard when I realized that the sentiment would fit his music. Originally the song was called ‘What A Girl Needs.’ But Ron Fair requested that we change the order the Needs/Wants for Christina. He felt that the “wants” was sexier. And he liked the alliteration of the ‘what a’ and the ‘wants.’ I hesitated at first but ultimately I made the swap. No regrets! The rest is history.”

Peiken’s reimagined version of the song set to groovy vibes and deep tones, takes on new meaning as she recalls being inspired by her then-boyfriend who gave her the space she needed to determine the next steps in their relationship. Peiken and that boyfriend are celebrating 17 years of marriage this year.

In addition to "What a Girl Wants" Peiken, has penned a number of songs that have become cultural moments, including Meredith Brooks' "Bitch," Christina Aguilera's "Come on Over Baby, Mandy Moore's "I Want to be With You," Brandy's "Almost Doesn't Count," The Pretenders "Human," Jessie J’s “Who You Are,” “Rotten To The Core” from Disney’s Descendents and hundreds more songs for artists such as Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, Reba, Natasha Bedingfield, N'Sync, INXS, Celine Dion, Keith Urban, Mark Wills, Cher, Smash Mouth and more. Collectively her songs have sold an excess of 50 Million records (see the full list HERE). Shelly will be revisiting a number of these songs, in addition to a handful of new originals on her album 2.0 etc..., slated for release this summer.

Peiken is as prolific a songwriter as when she got her start as a young writer in New York in the 90's, but a lot has changed since then. The digital economy has made it nearly impossible for most songwriters to sustain a livelihood so Shelly made it her business to do something about it.  She became a founding member of SONA (Songwriters of North America) a creators’ rights advocacy organization that has been making a name for itself preserving the value of songs and songwriters in a new music marketplace.

In 2018 she penned a memoir, Confessions of a Serial Songwriter, which gave an humorous and honest look at her career as a working songwriter who has navigated the shift from physical to digital, weathered ageism, sexism and most importantly, showcases her love for music and the pure joy that she gets from the creative process. The book was nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Spoken Word Album at the 60th GRAMMY Awards.

ZOOLUXX RELEASES JUST A LITTLE BIT + THE GHETTO STARSHIP DOUBLE EP

ZOOLUXX RELEASE  JUST A LITTLE BIT + THE GHETTO STARSHIP DOUBLE  EP

+ LOS ANGELES RELEASE SHOW TONIGHT AT THE MOROCCAN

PICT0023+copy.jpg

LISTEN TO JUST A LITTLE BIT + THE GHETTO STARSHIP DOUBLE EPHERE

"With its distorted vocals, wah-wah drench guitars, and gospel backing vocals, the track sounds like Saul Williams teaming up with the Heavy being produced by Danger Mouse.” - Surviving the Golden Age

"This band knows how to craft a funky jam that gets a crowd dancing like they’re spinning inside invisible, electrified hula-hoops." - Buzzbands LA

Los Angeles band Zooluxx have released their heady double EP with their newest five-song offering Just A Little Bit on the A-Side and their debut EP The Ghetto Starship on the B-Side, out today on Blind Owl Records. The five-song EP was produced by Howlin Rain guitarist and Blind Owl owner Dan Cervantes, with Jordan Andreen engineering at Audio Design Recording and Joe Bozzi mastering at Bernie Grundman Mastering. The Ghetto Starship, released digitally last year, was produced by renowned saxophonist  Karl Denson (The Rolling Stones, Lenny Kravitz, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe). The band found a champion in Denson after opening for him in LA.  Denson then took them under his wing to produce The Ghetto Starship recording to analog tape on Lynyrd Skynyrd's old API console in San Diego. The careful attention to the recording process and affinity for analog recording are no accident for Zooluxx whose influences range from 1960s rock & roll, electric blues, Parliament-Funkadelic, Curtis Mayfield, and Afrobeat.  Their intention is to make spontaneous dance music rooted in grooves and guitars, both modern in its explosively eclectic approach and proudly old-school in its reverence for analog sound.

The five new songs on the A-side of starts off with the “Golden Gun Blues,” a song about trading lies for truth, thick with blues guitar riffs and harmonica. The title track “Just a Little Bit,” released as a single earlier this month,  sets the overall tone for the EP with its spacey groove and lyrics that ruminate on greed and the insatiable nature of our society. “Honing their live show as the Monday residents at Hollywood’s Good Times at Davey Wayne’s for five years, you can surmise they’ve seen a lot,” said Buzzbands LA on their review of “Just a Little Bit.”  “This latest track could be about some of that. And it could be about anywhere where there is a struggle and a bit of vice lurking in the surroundings.” The EP is rounded out by the frenetic  “Brown Boogie,” with searing guitars and lyrics, driving listeners to “Do your thing. Do what you do! Get around, you gotta move! May not dance as well as you! Gotta feel, you know the real!,” the 17-second instrumental interlude “Mignon,” and the psychedelic “Berties Paradise '' that showcases the band’s Afrobeat and Latin influences.

“These days, we should find our similarities with strangers rather than focus on our differences. What better way to bridge the divide than with raw, unadulterated funk?” - Grimy Goods

Zooluxx will be playing a co-headlining release show tonight at the Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles with Santa Cruz’s 7Come11 who have a new single, “The Moon,” out today. Both bands will head to Santa Cruz playing Urbani Cellars on Saturday, February 1.

“These days, we should find our similarities with strangers rather than focus on our differences. What better way to bridge the divide than with raw, unadulterated funk?”  - Grimy Goods

Los Angeles band Zooluxx have released their latest single  “Just A Little Bit,” from their eponymous forthcoming EP due out on January 31st  via Blind Owl.  The Just A Little Bit EP, produced by Howlin Rain guitarist and Blind Owl owner Dan Cervantes and Jordan Andreen, will be released digitally and as the A-Side of a vinyl package that features the band’s debut EP The Ghetto Starship. The band will be playing a hometown release show at the Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles on Friday 1/31 (show details HERE).

The dark fuzzed-out guitar intro of “Just a Little Bit” eases into a steady funk groove setting the stage for a danceable, yet mind-bending musical exploration on the insatiability of our culture and how people, Americans, in particular, seem to want what they don’t have and want more of what they already have emphasized by lyrics that chant "People want what they don’t got, they ask and they say. I wanna go home right now, I wanna get paid right now. People want what they don’t got it, they ask and they say. I wanna get saved right now, I wanna get laid right now. “

“It’s about trading lies for the truth that frontman Troy Vincent masterfully executes with his unmatched vocals on the “jazzadelic space grove”. Listen to the well-made record below. It has everything you’d want to hear in a song of this caliber.” - GrungeCake

This new EP is the follow up to the band's debut, The Ghetto Starship, an EP released digitally this last summer produced by renowned saxophonist  Karl Denson (The Rolling Stones, Lenny Kravitz, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe). The band found a champion in Denson after opening for him in LA. Denson charged the stage and raved into the mic about how Zooluxx was his absolute favorite band. He then took them under his wing to produce The Ghetto Starship recording to analog tape on Lynyrd Skynyrd's old API console in San Diego. This collaboration and the sheer creative force of the band caught the eye of Blind Owl owner Dan Cervantes, who signed them immediately and came on board to co-produce Just a Little Bit. “We loved the words,” says producer and label head Dan Cervantes about the single. “The groove and the hooks in the song the boys laid down initially. It was Jordan's idea for the background vocals which I heard right away as well, we had started working with the singers Brittany Wallace and Tina White who instantly got it and did the thing. We took a 90's hip hop approach, a mix of G Funk with Marvin Gaye and somewhere skirting James Brown and Jimi Hendrix. Troy's got such a vibey guitar tone, the band grooves together in such a unique way and once we added Jody Bagley from Mrs. Henry on organ, the track was popping more than ever.”

"US outfit take their cues from Jimi Hendrix with this bold and bluesy psych-rock gem.” - Mystic Sons

Zooluxx frontman Troy Vincent describes the band’s sound as a 'jazzadelic space groove.”  The band's influences range from 1960s rock & roll, electric blues, Parliament-Funkadelic, Curtis Mayfield, and Afrobeat. It’s spontaneous dance music rooted in grooves and guitars, both modern in its explosively eclectic approach and proudly old-school in its reverence for analog sound. The band honed in on their sound and perfecting their electric live show with a Monday night residency at Good Times at Davey Wayne's. The 70's themed club was an oddly fitting home for Zooluxx, whose songs mixed vintage cool with a contemporary kick. Every Monday night for five years, Troy and Ned would hit the stage, piecing together their band's unique sonic stomp — as well as their ideal lineup — while members of the Arctic Monkeys, Muse, Paul McCartney, and U2 circulated throughout the audience. It was a proper scene, with Zooluxx's co-founders serving as the ringleaders.

THE SILENT COMEDY RELEASE "ENEMIES MULTIPLY" + ALBUM ANNOUNCEMENT

THE SILENT COMEDY RELEASE THEIR “ENEMIES MULTIPLY” SINGLE

+ ANNOUNCE THE  ENEMIES MULTIPLY ALBUM OUT 10/19

enemies-multiply-single.jpg

LISTEN TO ENEMIES MULTIPLY : HERE

The Silent Comedy have released “Enemies Multiply” the title track from the forthcoming album due out 10/19 and available for pre-order HERE.

The songs on the album are inspired by professional and personal struggles the band found themselves in several years ago. The turmoil had a profound influence on the recording process, resulting in a body of work that was the most difficult to date for the band to create. But, like most great works of art, something really beautiful emerged from that very dark place. Enemies Multiply is a collection of 11 songs  that the band is very proud of. The timing couldn’t be better, with our current cultural climate, to release this album in 2018. “This album is a collection of anthems for dark times,” says Joshua Zimmerman. “Given the state of society today, we feel this is a perfect time to release Enemies Multiply. The average person has become more engaged in issues of exploitation and injustice than we have seen in recent years, and these songs speak directly to the feelings of anger, defiance, and frustration that many of us are feeling."

The release of the album was delayed for a number of reasons, with the main reason being that reliving the pain and frustration put into the songs was like rubbing salt into their wounds, and the brothers (Joshua and Jeremiah Zimmerman) chose, for a time, to focus their creative energies elsewhere. But then the 2016 election happened.  Joshua was living in New York City and was feeling bewildered and frustrated at the country’s new reality. He realized that the feeling of this moment is what they wrote the record for.  A certain pall of outrage and desperation had settled over the country and in Joshua’s estimation, the album now had greater cultural resonance.

The title track and current single, “Enemies Multiply,” is an examination of destructive personality types and how they affect the world around us. It embraces the view that mere participation in our society leaves an individual open to a certain amount of exploitation and betrayal. With lyrics like, “Won’t allow my heart to break for every beautiful mistake,” it also stands as a defiant anthem in the face of a bleak reality.

Joshua and Jeremiah Zimmerman formed the Silent Comedy in their adopted hometown of San Diego. The brothers spent their childhood traveling around the world with their missionary parents. The family returned to the U.S. and meandered a bit on the road before settling in San Diego, where they moved into a house with nothing in it but an upright piano. It was then - around junior high - that the brothers started collaborating on songwriting as a form of catharsis. It is their travels that have colored their worldview, which when compared to some of their peers, is decidedly darker. Seeing the immense amount of suffering around the world really shaped how they look at life, and Enemies Multiply is a distillation of this somber perspective.

This will be the band’s third full length record and the follow up to their last full length, Common Faults, which has gone through three rounds of CD re-pressings due to demand, and has garnered tens of millions of streams and downloads.Their music has also been paired with gritty American tales such as  Hatfields & McCoys, starring Kevin Costner,  the History Channel’s original series The Men Who Built America, Showtime’s Shameless, and the theme song for the first season of the Amazon show Goliath. The success of the album led to tours of North America, Europe, and the UK, and supporting slots with artists such as The Heavy, ZZ Ward, Ryan Bingham, and Dave Matthews Band to name a few.

The band has two release shows planned for Enemies Multiply. The first in Los Angeles at the Hi Hat on 10/18 and the second in San Diego at the Casbah on 10/19, which is already sold out.

WILL DAILEY RELEASES GOLDEN WALKER ALBUM TODAY

WILL DAILEY RELEASES GOLDEN WALKER ALBUM TODAY

Will Dailey Golden Walker.jpg

Boston artist  Will Dailey has released Golden Walker, an 11 song meditation on life and how to navigate it within our current cultural climate. Golden Walker is Dailey’s second album released outside of the major label system. The album is a follow up to National Throat, his indie debut, that went on to receive numerous awards including Album and Artist of the Year at the Boston Music Awards, Song of the Year and Producer of the Year at the New England Music Awards, Best of the Year by Improper Bostonian Magazine, debuted in the top 20 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, and garnered over 9 Million streams on Spotify.

In a world of instant gratification Dailey is challenging listeners to sit and savor the songs on this album. Twangville said that Golden Walker “is generally pensive and restrained, challenging the listener to dig into the songs. Those who do will be amply rewarded.”

According to the Boston Globe, “ the closer one listens, the more ‘Golden Walker’ reveals itself a hard-won product of that interim. Partly, it’s about current events. It’s not essential to know that the Women’s March of 2017 inspired ‘Bad Behavior’ — it could be a general celebration of rule-breaking — but that knowledge draws the lyrical threads tight. ‘He Better Be Alive,’ meanwhile, is inescapably about the horror of ‘Baltimore, Carolina, Staten Island,’ even without recognizing the title refrain as the words of Keith Scott’s wife as a North Carolina police officer fatally shot him in 2016.”

Dailey started the album as a handbook on accountability, but  as the writing progressed it  morphed into so much more.  Not only do the songs on Golden Walker, serve as social commentary, but they are meditations on life and the struggles, both internal and external, that come with aging and just plainly existing on the planet.  “ It’s an album, Daily says “about being an adult and feeling like a lost child.”

The idea for this album was sparked  by a once in a lifetime interaction Dailey had a with a sculptor in France who heard his set in the tiny village Dailey was playing one night several years ago. The sculptor told Dailey “All the gold is being take from our world. They take it all to use in technological devices that are supposed to help us communicate. The gold is disappearing, hidden in phones and computers that only leave us feeling more alone, separated and disconnected. When I heard you tonight through the walls of my workshop, I heard real communication. I heard you. You are a communicator.” He then sculpted and gifted Will a sculpture of a man with a gold nugget on  his foot called “The Golden Walker,” and told Dailey that he had to be a keeper and protector of the gold and to keep communicating through music; he had to become a “Golden Walker.”

“He evokes a Paul Simon intricacy at times, a Jeff Buckley fragility at others, topping it with challenging folk-pop and a breezy, almost Motown soul flair in the first single, 'Bad Behavior.' The clincher for me is 'He Better Be Alive,' a driving, percussive track inspired by the nightly news. Dailey has a wonderfully elastic voice, a natural sense of poetry, and a restless mind that looks for answers and often takes us to them.”   Steve Morse (longtime Boston Globe staff pop critic, current Rock History at Berklee College of Music)

“Loneliness is an epidemic,” says Dailey. “Content is tyrannical. Being together has atrophied, as evident in our leadership crisis and cultural absurdity. Being present with each other should really be in abundance. The aspect of being human should come first. Yet our limitless interconnectivity limits our connection.” Golden Walker is Dailey’s way of adding compost to the soil for the coming spring and a world that thrives on genuine connection and where truth and accountability not only prosper, but are celebrated.

LIZ VICE RELEASES NEW ALBUM SAVE ME

LIZ VICE RELEASES NEW ALBUM SAVE ME

Liz Vice Save Me.jpg

The mindfulness she brings to the stories she tells on ‘Save Me proves essential, and powerful.”  - NPR Music

“Liz Vice walks the stony road to redemption, delivering tunes that celebrate the victory over the illusions that hold us down while acknowledging the heavy weight of self-doubt and missed opportunities for loving others that we bear. “  - No Depression

Soulful songstress Liz Vice is excited to announce the release of her sophomore album Save Me out everywhere today.

The material for this dynamic record, that was featured as part of NPR’s First Listen program, was taken from different periods of Vice’s life and her struggle to continuously answer her call to music. The opening track “Drift Away” was described by NPR as having “a bit of the prophetic exhortation of a Civil Rights-era spiritual. The way she elevates an internal struggle to life-or-death heights in the title track straddles contemporary worship and modern rock language.” “Brick By Brick,” a powerful track featuring the chanting of travel ban protesters at the Portland airport, proves a forceful reminder that no one is alone in this world.  "Fancy Feet" which has a  jazzy Norah Jones feel to it,  examines Liz's struggle with the idea of femininity. Through the song she comes to the conclusion that being a woman is not about what she wears but is about who she is, and who she is is someone who gets to bring love, hope, light  and a bit of an escape from the world to people of all shapes and sizes. The beautiful title track  “Save Me,” that features Vice’s voice on top of sparse piano compositions is the first song she ever wrote. The song sees Vice  questioning why she was called into an artistic life, which is far from easy. Throughout the song she comes to terms with the fact that she may never know the answers to most of the questions she has about being alive, but having received the gift of song, she gets to see people who would never meet,  gather in one space with their arms around each other singing her songs; our songs.

“It's no wonder that the warm, woolen, throwback soul textures of Liz Vice's debut, ‘There's A Light,’ was quickly embraced a few years back. But until she made her entrancing follow-up Save Me (out June 1 on Vice's own label), it was easy to overlook all the ways that she breaks the mold.”  - NPR

Vice has been playing these songs live on tour supporting Rodriguez and Lake Street Dive. She will be on tour throughout the summer, including at album release show on June 14th at SOB’s in New York City.

THE DAVENPORTS RELEASE "WHERE SHALL WE HANG ELENA?" + ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM

THE DAVENPORTS RELEASE “WHERE SHALL WE HANG ELENA?” + ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM DON’T BE MAD AT ME COMING JULY 13TH

Where Shall We Hang Elena.jpg

New York indie pop group The Davenports have released the single “Where Shall We Hang Elena?” from the forthcoming album Don’t Be Mad at Me due out July 13th.

The Davenports is the long time project of songwriter and musician Scott Klass, who according to the Deli Magazine are “steeped in pop/rock—Ben Folds meets Weezer …leading you to sing along to songs you’re hearing for the first time while stories unfold of relationships gone awry….”

“Where Shall We Hang Elena? ” was inspired by an incredible 60’s/70’s era photo Klass had of his mother, who died when he was only twelve. He wanted to hang the image, but wasn’t sure he wanted the constant reminder of the painful memory. Klass found this dilemma of wanting to honor the life of a loved one, but also being fearful of the pain the constant reminder of their absence would bring to be a relatively universal feeling. Everyone has experienced this mixture of loss, fear and love and it was this idea that sparked  the writing of “ Where Shall We Hang Elena?”  The song is not about his mother, but a fictional girl, who both mesmerized the family and caused them heartache.

Prior Davenports albums have been released to critical acclaim, the songs of which can be heard in a number of films and TV shows, including the song “Five Steps,” which is the theme song to A&E’s Emmy-nominated show Intervention. Although, Klass is at the helm of the writing and creative process behind the Davenports, he has always looked at the project as a collective. The collective is made up a rotating group of stellar artists creating music with regular appearances by Claudia Chopek (Father John Misty, Springsteen, Moby), Garo Yellin (The Band’s Visit, The Ordinaires, Pere Ubu), Danny Weinkauf, Dan Miller (They Might Be Giants), Erik Philbrook, Rob Draghi and Cheri Leone to name a few.   “

“Klass writes melodic confections that seep into your psyche and stay…and does so with wit and intelligence.” – Pop Matters

Don’t Be Mad at Me, marks a series of firsts for Klass. Shirley Simms of The Magnetic Fields handles lead vocals on “Miranda in Her Room”--the first Davenport's song to ever feature a lead vocalist other than Klass. The track ”I Don’t Know What to Do”--marks Klass’s entry into the world of co-writing.  Klass wrote the song with Swedish pop musician David Myhr (The Merrymakers) while on a “co-writing tour” of the U.S. The tracks “Miranda in Her Room,” and  “I Don’t Know What to Do” were also collaborations, and in this case long distance international collaborations.

In addition to the Davenports, Klass is member of Look Park, the new project from Fountains of Wayne front man Chris Collingwood which also includes Philip Price of Winterpills. Last year, the trio played Japan’s Fuji Rock festival, opened for Squeeze on their west coast tour, and last Spring Klass and Collingwood supported rock legend Dave Davies of the Kinks.

SECRETEAR : HERE

“Come for the guitar work, split by Zdan and My Morning Jacket’s Carl Broemel. Stay for the reverb-drenched harmonies, which connect the dots between the poppy and the psychedelic Americana.”  - ROLLING STONE

Nashville’s Brandy Zdan has released her sophomore album Secretear out today via Tallest Man Records. Secretear which is a Spanish word for “a secret conversation” was co-produced by Zdan and Teddy Morgan, and features  My Morning Jacket’s Tom Blankenship (bass), Carl Broemel (guitar and pedal steel) and The Texas Gentlemen’s Aaron Haynes (drums). For this record the Juno award nominee dug back into the music she grew up on, 60 & 70s rock n’ roll. Inspirer Magazine said “Zdan is bringing back with this vibe by revisiting what made her into the artist she is today, is the joy and innocence of a time I can personally only remember for its music,” and Rolling Stone said “Brandy Zdan stretches her legs with her solo career, exploring the middle ground between the Beatles, the Breeders and the Bangles.” Songs from Secretear can be heard rockin’ Spotify playlists like “BadAss Women” “Rockin’ Vibes” and “Fierce Femmes.”

“Clearly drawing inspiration from 70s and 80s pop groups like Talking Heads and The Go Gos, “I Want Your Trouble” is going to have you toe-tapping along to its every beat. With its perfect combination of electric guitar strums and drum hits, “I Want Your Trouble” has all the satisfying elements of the perfect rock n’ roll tune.”  — East of 8th

Writing and recording this album Zdan pushed herself farther that she had gone before, both emotionally and physically. She let herself be vulnerable enough to come to terms with the mistakes she has made, along with her toxic leaning emotional patterns, and channeled those into these songs. Physically, these songs have a ton of energy, which she wanted to reflect in the recording, so much so that she blew out her voice and ran her fingers to the point of being raw and bleeding the first week of recording. All the self-inflicted pain was worth it. She came out of  the recording process as the best version other herself, both as a musician and a human being. Leading into the release Zdan spent time on the road winning over some tough audiences of rock and guitar purists opening for Doyle Bramhall and then supporting Buddy Guy on his West Coast tour.

“Zdan played electric guitar and sang, while accompanied only by a drummer. And while she was playing the blues, it brought back fond memories of another famous guitar-drum duo, The White Stripes.”  — California Rocker (on Brandy opening for Buddy Guy in LA)

Zdan will be performing Secretear in full tonight at Douglas Corner in Nashville. Her band for the show will feature the musicians from the record including Carl Broemel and Tom Blankenship of My Morning Jacket, and Aaron Haynes of The Texas Gentlemen (drums).
