BONNIE & TAYLOR SIMS RELEASE “DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA” SINGLE + ANNOUNCE THE BONNIE & TAYLOR SIMS ALBUM DUE OUT  ON SEPTEMBER 15TH

“DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA” : LISTEN // WATCH

The Texas-bred Colorado-based artists Bonnie & Taylor Sims have released the twangy earworm “Devil and the Deep Blue,” the first single off their forthcoming self-titled album Bonnie & Taylor Sims due out on September 15.  Bonnie and Taylor have almost done it all. They are RIAA Certified Gold recording artists, have seen breakaway global success with their song “I See Red” that has over 250 Million streams with their project Everybody Loves an Outlaw, had a major label deal with Columbia, have toured the world, and graced the stages of major festivals. Amidst this wave of newfound success Bonnie and Taylor never lost touch with the thing that was most important to them: writing songs and making music with each other. With the shift the world took during the pandemic came the need for the duo to go down a different path and change directions artistically.

“Devil and the Deep Blue Sea'' is the first step in this new direction. This song, as with the majority of the songs on the album, were born out of the juxtaposition of a changing world. They explore the dichotomy of beauty and pain, hope and destruction, and with this single,  the tangible elements of black and white, sea and stone, and at its core is a song of transition and duality. “Devil and the Deep Blue Sea” is a harbinger of the new sound we’ve been developing over the past two years,” Bonnie Sims told Folk n’ Rock.  “This song is a portrait of our edgy-punk-rock-reality that has been bubbling right beneath the surface. We’re illustrating a collection of opposing forces and contrasting ideas that lean into the duality of our humanity, as musicians and as people.”

This summer sees the band on the road in their adopted state of Colorado playing festivals and a number of concert series. Find information on the tour dates HERE

LISTEN // WATCH: “NOTHING LASTS FOREVER”

Today, with the release of their single and accompanying music video “Nothing Lasts Forever,” Washington, DC-based duo The Slang announces the forthcoming release of their debut LP Divide, due out on September 24th. “Nothing Lasts Forever” is about reliance on an unhealthy vice—lyrically crafted such that the vice could be anything from a significant other to an addiction. "'Nothing Lasts Forever' is about addictions in our lives that we seem to never conquer," says co-founder John Bobo.  "Addiction comes in all shapes and sizes so we wanted a video that interpreted it as an unhealthy relationship.  Maybe she breaks the addiction or will the cycle continue?"  The single, and its cinematic video directed by Adio Ash, is the first chapter of the album's stories.

The album features 10 shimmering alt-rock gems written by co-founders John Bobo and Felix Nieto, and produced by Nieto. “It’s our first full-length album, so we used that to our advantage to take risks that we may not have on our prior EP’s,” explains Bobo. “As the expression goes, ‘Stories Don’t End,’ so what happens after the movie ends and the credits have rolled? Divide is an album about trying to overcome the inevitable, but continues asking that question of ‘what happens next?’”

~

Offering a distinct blend of power-pop, alternative, and contemporary rock, The Slang is comfortable testing genre lines and taking their time to capture the minutiae of modern life. With a laid-back intensity that infuses their music, lead vocalist/multi-instrumentalist John Bobo serves as the main songwriter while bassist/multi-instrumentalist Felix Nieto focuses on production. Both artists share a kind of low-key perfectionism: hands-on, hyper-attuned to textural detail, and aware of what elevates a song from good to great. “We want to do it right,” says Bobo. “And we’re willing to do whatever it takes to make the best possible track each time.”

With smooth vocals and striking guitar melodies, The Slang is often compared to bands like Snow Patrol and The Killers, but with a modern twist and more experimental production value. “We care about the experience, whether on headphones or at a live show,” says Nieto, whose production adds a sleekness and edge. Bobo’s introspective lyrics explore singular moments that define human relationships. This beautiful blend of respective talent is evident on Divide, which features the band’s characteristic melodic precision, bright, electric guitar-driven anthems, and top-quality production, but with a more pop-leaning sound. Be sure to follow The Slang via the links below for the latest news, updates, and tour information.

KILLER WHALE PREMIERES NEW SINGLE & VIDEO

“COMFORTABLE” WITH V13

NEW LP TASTES LIKE YESTERDAY OUT SEPTEMBER 18TH VIA DEVIL IN THE WOODS

New Orleans-based band Killer Whale has shared “Comfortable,” the lead single and video from their forthcoming album Tastes Like Yesterday, out September 18th via Devil In The Woods. “Truly a gratifying audio-visual experience, the video takes you through many unconventional, at times hypnotic, scenes pulled right from the wildest side of your imagination,” says V13 in their premiere of the “psychedelic-tinged” new single and its accompanying “sensory-stimulating” video. “You’ll witness a set of eyes growing flowers, a rainbow-coloured dancer, and even an old-fashioned station wagon driving itself. Experiencing the video is like taking a walk down a winding road of twists and turns where the human mind is left to run wild. “‘Comfortable’ was inspired by growing more comfortable with my own self and the shedding of societal expectations of one’s own self,” says Killer Whale frontman and creative force Thomas Johnson. “I had reached a point in my life when I started feeling confident in my personality which in turn gave me more confidence in my art. This song tries to express that feeling when you begin to really feel comfortable just being who you are.”

LISTEN: “COMFORTABLE”

Somewhere between the rustic Louisiana bayou and dreamy California shores lies Killer Whale. With their colorful rhythms and rock n’ roll daydreams, they create a space that invites you in, tells you to make yourself at home, and hugs you as you walk in the door. Killer Whale, much like its creator, wanders between New Orleans, Austin, and San Francisco, bearing the melodic scars all that travel brings him. A mixture of genres, Killer Whale doesn’t subscribe to any one camp. Instead, it exudes them all.

This kaleidoscope of sound oozes from every dreamy groove of the album’s 10 psychedelic, surf-infused, funk n' soul-tinged gems. With that kind of concoction, it doesn’t seem too far-fetched to think that the songs would be a melee, an atonal mishmash that harkens back to the days of being different for different’s sake. Under the leadership of another musician, such might be the case, but Killer Whale melds everything together in the name of freaky good fun.

“I’m not a perfectionist,” admits Johnson. “Yet I do want each new record to demonstrate some progression from what came before. I don’t necessarily want it to sound radically different, and I think Tastes Like Yesterday accomplishes that. I like the idea of each album hinting at what’s coming next without really being specific about that direction.” Though one can hear echoes of the band’s previous release Casual Crush, this album finds Johnson’s muse immersing him in a very seductive, mellow soul. “I’m from Louisiana, and New Orleans culture and music have always been an influence on me, whether consciously or not,” Johnson says. When asked how he describes his music, Johnson laughs and suggests it’s “Pontoon Soul.” Lead single “Comfortable” offers an example of this new genre; it’s swampy and murky, yet Johnson’s heavenly voice transcends, resulting in a song best described as drop-dead gorgeous.

MARKET JUNCTION ANNOUNCES NEW LP WITH THE RELEASE OF LEAD SINGLE "NEBRASKA"

MARKET JUNCTION UNVEILS NEW SINGLE “NEBRASKA” VIA AMERICAN SONGWRITER

NEW LP BURNING BRIDGES SET FOR RELEASE  ON AUGUST 7TH

Houston, Texas-based folk/Americana band Market Junction has announced their forthcoming album Burning Bridges, due out August 7th, with the release of lead single “Nebraska.” “Home is not a place. It is a connection to another person,” golden-voiced vocalist Matt Parrish told American Songwriter of the songs’s inspiration. “When you lose those people, you feel uprooted, disconnected, and lost. Being out on the road is hard on a relationship, yet the constant war inside us wages between the dreams we chase and the people we love. Sometimes the road wins and we are left with nothing but our own wanderlust.” American Songwriter called its lyrics “particularly poignant,” saying they “perfectly capture this sense of lonely restlessness.”

LISTEN: “NEBRASKA”

Burning Bridges“features the kind of deft songwriting that has earned Parrish and guitarist/keyboardist Justin Lofton accolades since the band’s debut,” adds American Songwriter. Parrish and Lofton, both award-winning songwriters, set out on a journey to create the kind of music they not only loved to listen to but music that they loved to play. Since those early days, the band expanded its lineup to include Taylor Hilyard on bass guitar and Michael Blattel on drums, sharing stages with Cory Morrow, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Jack Ingram, Radney Foster and more.

“We’ve done nothing the conventional way”, says Parrish. “It’s taken us nine years to figure out who we are and what direction we want to take our careers,” adds Lofton. The combination of lyrical prowess and Lofton’s fretboard mastery has resulted in a sound that is rooted in place and time, but that transcends both. While the band has found success in their beloved home state of Texas, they are ready to show the rest of the world what they can do. The wait will have been well worth it for Americana music fans across the country - each of the 10 tracks on Burning Bridges tell one story, one of a young man learning about love and its consequences. Sometimes the heartbreak spurs the traveling, and other times the traveling is the cause of the heartbreak. Either way, Burning Bridges will break your heart in the best kind of way, and have you reaching for the keys.

NATALIE SCHLABS PREMIERES NEW SINGLE “HOME IS YOU” & ANNOUNCES NEW LP "DON’T LOOK TOO CLOSE" SET FOR RELEASE ON OCTOBER 16TH

PHOTO: FAIRLIGHT HUBBARD

Singer/songwriter Natalie Schlabs has announced her forthcoming album Don’t Look Too Close,  due out October 16th, with the release of lead single “Home Is You.” The song was co-written with Bekah Ham and features backing vocals from Katie Herzig. “Romantic, timeless love songs are great, but what about other kinds of love? Best friends, childhood neighbors, brothers and sisters, a mentor and mentee, family. This is just the kind of angle singer-songwriter Natalie Schlabs poses in many of her songs, including her latest, “Home Is You,” said American Songwriter in its premiere of the track, inspired by that person who is your “person.” “Schlabs’ voice possesses an audible kindness to it, that allows her to carry her performance with the calmness and sincerity necessary to portray a song crafted on the kind of love that overreaches any one type of relationship.” “Home Is You”

LISTEN: “HOME IS YOU”

The nine tracks that comprise Don’t Look Too Close, the second full-length effort from the Texas-bred Nashville-based artist, live in the tension between the beauty and heartbreak surrounding our closest relationships. The songs were written when Schlabs was pregnant with her first child, which caused a lot of reflection on her own upbringing and how she wanted to raise him. The album’s title came from the idea that "he’s going to see all the worst of me, be hurt by the worst of me, as much as I don’t want him to, and, as much as I want to be the best for him. I was thinking about how to raise a child, how to pass down values. There’s a dismantling of what I thought I knew,” she explains. “What do I value in my life and where did those things come from? What do I want to share with my children and what do I want to spare them from?”

The tracks on Don’t Look Too Close traverse the spectrum of feelings that tend to coincide with love, from bittersweet consideration of “the wilderness caused by depression or illness” in “See What I See,” to the haunting gentleness of “Ophelia,” written for a friend who lost her daughter. The title track addresses the everyday aches and pains people tend to hide from loved ones, and reflects on love’s blindness, how “sometimes the ones you love will never know how much you love them.” The album as a whole represents a place, a time, and a pocket of feelings that are as distinctly human as they are beautiful. “Growing up surrounded by family in the flatlands, there’s not a whole lot going on outside of the people. The climate is extreme, and isolation binds you to the people around you. Everyone’s in each other’s business, and you learn that love can go in many directions. Sometimes it’s about solidarity and sacrifice, sometimes it’s obsessive or painful,” Schlabs says. “This record is about navigating those feelings within our closest relationships.”

Don’t Look Too Close steps into indie territory with a compelling mix of instrumentation laced with solo vocals that bloom into easy, delicate harmonies. Co-produced by Juan Solorzano and Zachary Dyke, with Caleb Hickman on saxophone and Joshua Rogers on bass, the album swells and ebbs with elegant, absorbing shapes. The songs are moody, candid, and tender, each featuring Schlabs’ characteristically sleek vocals front-and-center, backed by charming instrumental moments that add form and depth to the melodies.

GLENN THOMAS RELEASES NEW SINGLE “ORIOLE” & ANNOUNCES NEW LP "REASSURE ME THERE'S A WINDOW"

GlennThomas_creditAnneliseLoughead.png

Nashville-by-way-of-New England singer/songwriter Glenn Thomas has released “Oriole,” the lead single from his forthcoming LP Reassure Me There’s A Window, out May 15th via Palace Flophouse Records. “I wrote this song after a bout of insomnia, where I wouldn’t fall asleep until early in the morning each night,” Thomas told Atwood Magazine in its premiere. “There was that dreaded time before the sun began to rise where the birds would start chirping. I thought it would be funny to ask the birds the questions that were keeping me up, since they were all unanswerable anyway. When I set the words to music, I thought it would be fun to make the music sound…lively, like a 60s pop song with serious lyrics.” “Folky, calm, with a skip in its step, its rhythm is familiar and bright,” Atwood Magazine said. “Raised in New England, Thomas encapsulates that ambience of small town daydreaming. “Oriole” is a reminder that, whether we’re with our own thoughts or sharing company with nature, we’re never solely alone- regardless of how delirious we feel.”

LISTEN: "ORIOLE"

Thomas, who cut his teeth fronting Rhode Island rock outfit Wild Sun, has shared stages with bands like Langhorne Slim, The Wombats, and Blitzen Trapper. He began writing songs that didn't fit within the rock-centric framework, and decided he would strike out on his own, stretching his creative muscles. The album was produced by Jordan Lehning (Rodney Crowell, Andrew Combs, Joshua Hedley); with its throwback flair, Reassure Me There's A Window is a lush, sweetly-arranged collection of articulate folk-tinged songs. Of Reassure Me There’s A Window, Atwood Magazine said, “The album, recorded in Nashville, follows a similar easy-going reflectiveness as ‘Oriole,’ with the additional guitar twangs and the sound of violins like hazy streaks of sunset while traveling solitarily on an open road.”

The album's 11 tracks - tight fingerpicking guitar-based tunes with introspective lyrics fleshed out with resonant string arrangements - center around the human condition - ideas of love and loss, isolation and connection, and wondering what more is out there. He writes songs that cut straight to his truths; by putting his life and the human condition under the microscope, his songs articulately observe the big questions with small details, paying careful attention to his understanding of himself and the seasonality of life.

Thomas will celebrate Reassure Me There’s A Window with an album release show on May 13th at The 5 Spot in Nashville.

MATT LOVELL RELEASES SINGLE "90 PROOF" & ANNOUNCES DEBUT LP OUT 6/5

90 Proof Cover.jpg

Nashville-based singer/songwriter Matt Lovell has announced the upcoming release of his debut album, Nobody Cries Today, out on June 5th. The video for the album’s soulful lead single “90 Proof,” which premiered via American Songwriter, was written during attempts to let go of a relationship that had ended. “I was also broke,” Lovell told American Songwriter. “I was what me and my friends laughingly call a ‘singer-songwaiter’ - employed by an upscale-ish burger restaurant in Nashville’s touristy Gulch neighborhood.” The song came to Lovell while he was working, and he ventured into the bathroom to record it on his phone. “I was in the middle of singing ‘I’ve been trying to lose your number, but my fingers won’t forget’ when one of my customers walked into the restaurant bathroom on me,” he recalled. “They probably still talk about their silly Nashville waiter singing in the bathroom.”

WATCH: “90 PROOF”

“Just one listen to Lovell’s voice as he delivers assertive but smooth blue eyed-soul during the song’s conflicted refrain (‘I got 90 proof / that I ain’t over you’) and that’s all the authentic connection the song needs,” said American Songwriter. “Lovell knows how to tap into a part of himself that can bring the emotions of ’90 Proof’ to the surface and doing so is all the more honorable, knowing the story he’s trying to tell, isn’t a made up screenplay; it’s one man being willing to revisit challenging parts of his life and do so with performative solemnity and grace.”

LISTEN: “90 PROOF”

All but one of the album’s songs were recorded in 2016 - just months before  Lovell nearly lost his life. On January 20, 2017, he was shot in the chest by a sixteen-year-old who attempted to steal his car. Miraculously, he lived. “This moment created a new center of gravity and re-ordered my understanding of everything I’ve experienced in this lifetime,” he explains. “Many people who experience an acute trauma go through somewhat of a euphoric period immediately after the incident occurs, and this was definitely my experience. The level of peace I felt was something I had never touched before. I wrote profusely, I gardened, I brought new life and vigor to my musical ventures, and I made peace with complicated friendships. More than anything, I found a level of great self-acceptance, and this created space for me to begin to learn how to live this life.”

This era ended with the abrupt onset PTSD, causing the most difficult time Lovell had ever faced. He began to question everything, and struggled to find a way to articulate the horrors he was experiencing.  Now, on the other side of recovery, Lovell is excited to sing these songs again for anyone who will listen. “In these years of writing and recording, I have gathered quite a wild palette of paints,” he says. “In a way, Nobody Cries Today has actually been my teacher.  As I have written these songs, each of them has been like a tiny rowboat to get me from one day to the next. They have witnessed me in the years that I was in the throes of trying to find acceptance for myself and for the world I’m living in.  As a gay man of southern origin, this proved to be a tall order. These songs have also helped me to explore things like zest for life, discontent, hunger, truth, and hope,” he continues. “Nobody Cries Today contains every bit of earnestness, desire, and love that I have to give.”

MARK ERELLI ANNOUNCES NEW LP "BLINDSIDED"  OUT MARCH 27 & RELEASES NEW SINGLE “A LITTLE KINDNESS”

ME color 2 (wr)-Joe Navas photo credit.JPG

Award-winning singer/songwriter Mark Erelli has released “A Little Kindness,” a track from his forthcoming LP Blindsided, due out March 27th via Soundly Music. “Boston-based musician Mark Erelli is known for both his songwriting acumen and his ability to bring that talent to co-writing sessions with other recordings artists,” American Songwriter said in its premiere. “For Erelli, music is a way to appreciate the world and the people in his life. And perhaps most acutely, the practice of music has taught Erelli the beauty of sublimation and reinforced the joy of helping others achieve their dreams, which, in turn, helps Erelli also achieve his.” "A Little Kindness" was penned in the wake of the Las Vegas shooting and Tom Petty's passing. “The night Tom Petty died, I was scrolling through social media looking to commiserate with fellow fans,” Erelli explains. “Singer/songwriter Joe Pug suggested that the best way to celebrate Petty’s legacy would be to stop mourning and go write a song. I know good advice when I see it, and wrote this song in one sitting.”

LISTEN: “A LITTLE KINDNESS”

Erelli has forged a colorful career by making the art of “being everywhere all the time” seem effortless. It’s hard to think of another artist who seems equally at home serving as a sideman for GRAMMY-winning artists like Paula Cole, Marc Cohn, and Josh Ritter, or producing albums for Lori McKenna, as he does writing and producing his own material, like last year’s “By Degrees,” on which he was joined by a host of voices including Rosanne Cash and Sheryl Crow. That song was nominated for “Song Of The Year” at the 2019 Americana Music Awards, and served to reintroduce Erelli to a wider audience. And just in time, because Blindsided combines the exuberance of Erelli’s signature sound with the wisdom that comes with over 20 years of songwriting, capturing an artist at a point in his career where he is clearly digging deep and swinging for the fences.

Blindsided, a step in a different sonic direction for Erelli, is an unflinching examination of the distance between innocence and experience. The album was forged in a process of reckoning, of taking stock of the soul, and being pleasantly surprised. Mining the same gritty yet soulful territory as John Hiatt’s Bring The Family or Bonnie Raitt’s Nick Of Time, Erelli contemplates the delicate tension between love and commitment, faith and family, disillusionment and hope. But this isn’t a confession from the therapist’s couch, it’s rock ’n roll, and Erelli is clearly taking his cues from heroes like Petty and Prine. To create the soundtrack that reflected this reinvigorated approach to songwriting, Erelli consulted his mental list of fellow musicians with whom he had forged connections in recent years, and realized they all lived in Nashville. So, he made the trek to the Music City, with best friend and multi-instrumentalist/producer Zachariah Hickman in tow, curious to see what effect a change in geography, personnel, and context would produce. With the help of drummer Jamie Dick (Rhiannon Giddens, Our Native Daughters), guitarist Sadler Vaden (Jason Isbell, Josh Ritter), Kai Welch (Molly Tuttle, Kacey Musgraves) on keys, producer Hickman on bass, and Dan Knobler (Lake Street Dive, Caroline Spence) recording and mixing, the result couldn’t have been more unanticipated. Against the backdrop of Blindsided’s hungrier, hook-laden sound, with the inspired addition of a string quartet on half of the album, Erelli has never sounded more passionate or vital. Over the course of Blindsided’s 11 tracks, the message of each song is distilled to its purest form, as fearlessly honest in perspective as it is straightforward in its delivery.

THE MOWGLI'S ANNOUNCE THE NEW EP 'AMERICAN FEELINGS' + NATIONWIDE TOUR WITH JUKEBOX THE GHOST

THE MOWGLI’S ANNOUNCE THE NEW EP AMERICAN FEELINGS & NATIONWIDE TOUR WITH JUKEBOX THE GHOST

AF EP.jpg

The Mowgli’s will be releasing a new four song EP American Feelings on March 1st followed by a co-headlining nationwide tour with Jukebox the Ghost.

From their beginning as a music collective in Venice Beach, California The Mowgli’s have been writing songs of love, unity and togetherness. Their break out hit “San Francisco” brought them national attention and cemented the band as an indie-rockers with purpose and a message. Two subsequent albums and an independent EP have captured an ever growing fanbase drawn to their feel-good anthems.

As they’ve grown, the group has balanced their positive music with songs that give a window into the trials of a working band: Juggling relationships, friendships and adulthood with the rigors of constant touring. This was most apparent in their currently highest-streaming single “Kansas City”, released last year. Now presenting their second self-controlled EP American Feelings, The Mowgli’s have, perhaps surprisingly, found greater bonds than ever before: If nothing else, the path is shared and those sharing it have an intimate knowledge of what the journey feels like.  “This EP speaks to the youth of America,” says Josh Hogan (guitar/vocals). “Being a person is hard, and we’re all just trying to be people here. American Feelings  is a well rounded taste of The Mowgli’s.  It’s our best work yet, and we’re extremely proud of it. “

This theme of connection is woven throughout the EP, starting with the anthemic pop song “Hard to Love” that pays homage to the daunting task of taking a good hard look at yourself in the mirror, owning up to who you are all while dancing your way through it, to the spacey and hypnotic  “Mr. Telephone” that examines our culture’s obsession with gadgets and synthetic connectivity. “We are all Mr. Telephone,” says Katie Earl, “seeking answers from a device in the palm of our hands, but after all is said and done, how much more connected are we? How much can we gain from spending time inside our phones, and how much do we lose? There is a lot of love and knowledge and connection outside of our little boxes, and finding a balance is more crucial than ever before.”  The EP is rounded out by the laid-back song “Norman Rockwell” that finds its lyrical roots in every youth’s disenfranchised America, and a stomping rocker “Talk About It,” that is about forgiveness and talking your way through difficult situations. “Communication is a very powerful tool,” says Hogan. “If we could learn to communicate in a healthy way, this place would be much less divided.”

The Mowgli’s - who began as a 10+ member group playing house parties and warehouse gatherings - is now comprised of singer/guitarists Colin Dieden & Josh Hogan, singer Katie Jayne Earl, drummer Andy Warren, keys player David Appelbaum and Matt Di Panni on bass. The release of their first major-label LP Waiting For The Dawn in 2013 saw immediate success with the hit single “San Francisco” and the band quickly found themselves playing to sold out crowds in clubs around the U.S. and inundated by requests for press, sponsorships and partnerships.  The band’s music has accumulated 250 Million streams and counting, and they’ve graced the stages of major festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, ACL, Firefly, Osheaga, Arroyo Seco, BottleRock, Bumbershoot and more. They’ve worked with major international brands such as Spotify, Abercrombie, Levi’s, GM, Dunkin’ Donuts, VW and Verizon and continue to spread their message of positivity not only through their music but through their work with charities such as Heal The Bay, Happy Bottoms and the International Rescue Committee. The Mowgli’s will be playing songs from American Feelings live this winter on a co-headlining tour with Jukebox the Ghost.

THE DAVENPORTS RELEASE DON'T BE MAD AT ME ALBUM TODAY

THE DAVENPORTS RELEASE DON’T BE MAD AT ME

DAVENPORTS-CD-COVERART_preview.jpeg

Filled with smooth, slightly punky angst and raw yet beautifully affective arrangements, it's a must-hear collection for any fan of the style. – Pop Matters

New York indie pop band The Davenports are excited to announce the release of their new album Don’t Be Mad At Me out everywhere today.

The Davenports is the longtime project of songwriter and musician Scott Klass. Although Klass is at the helm of the writing and creative process behind The Davenports, he has always looked at the project as a collective. The collective is made up a rotating group of stellar artists creating music with regular appearances by Claudia Chopek (Father John Misty, Springsteen, Moby), Garo Yellin (The Band’s Visit, The Ordinaires, Pere Ubu), Danny Weinkauf, Dan Miller (They Might Be Giants), Erik Philbrook, Rob Draghi and Cheri Leone to name a few. Best known for “Five Steps,” the theme song to A&E’s Emmy-nominated Intervention, Klass has also built a reputation for what Pop Matters calls “gentle compositions and earnest songwriting [that] evoke the inviting, bittersweet charm of artists like Weezer, Andrew McMahon, Ben Folds, Danielson, Loud Family, and Half-Handed Cloud.”

This record is all about moment-in-time stories that drive through the rocky terrain of human nature. Twists and turns of phrase and melody connect a soundtrack that’s equal parts expansive rock and close melancholy. The first single on the album, “Where Shall We Hang Elena,” was inspired by a photograph of Klass’s mother who passed away when he was young and the sadness that often comes with the desire to honor the memory of a lost loved one but also wanting to forget the pain that comes with it. The album’s title track “Don’t Be Mad at Me” is another story very close to Klass about his father who had to take the car keys away from his mentally ill aunt, even though it was her prized possession.

“Don’t Be Mad At Me” examines this complicated relationship from both sides, and once again, Klass captures it with the same cleverness and intellect he’s come to be known for.” –Magnet Magazine

Don’t Be Mad At Me also marks a series of firsts for Klass. Shirley Simms of The Magnetic Fields handles lead vocals on “Miranda in Her Room,” the first Davenport's song to ever feature a lead vocalist other than Klass. The track ”I Don’t Know What to Do”--marks Klass’s entry into the world of co-writing as he worked on the song with Swedish pop musician David Myhr (The Merrymakers) last year. “Miranda in Her Room,” and “I Don’t Know What to Do” were also collaborations, and in this case long distance international collaborations.

In addition to the Davenports, Klass is a member of Look Park, the new project from Fountains of Wayne frontman Chris Collingwood which also includes Philip Price of Winterpills. Last year, the trio played Japan’s Fuji Rock festival, opened for Squeeze on their west coast tour, and last spring, Klass and Collingwood supported rock legend Dave Davies of the Kinks.

ZAYDE WØLF RELEASES NEW ALBUM MODERN ALCHEMY

ZAYDE WØLF RELEASES NEW ALBUM MODERN ALCHEMY

zayde wolf alchemy new cover_preview.jpeg

Nashville’s ZAYDE WØLF has released his brand new album Modern Alchemy, out everywhere today. ZAYDE WØLF is a relatively new project for producer, songwriter and entrepreneur Dustin Burnett. His creative empire began with one song by accident and has since skyrocketed to include over 489,000 Spotify monthly listeners with 29 million streams, 9 million YouTube views, 88,000 YouTube subscribers and his music has been heard in hundreds of  TV shows, films, trailers, commercials, video games and more.

The album title Modern Alchemy is derived from the medieval chemistry of converting poor metals into gold. This ties into the albums theme of self-betterment and pushing yourself into something greater than where you came from or how people may have defined you. It is powered by the previously released singles "Gladiator" and "Rule the World" which collectively have earned over 1.8 million streams.  This is a topic of self-betterment is very close to home from Burnett, who grew up in Metropolis, IL a small town in Illinois best known for its fictional son, Clark Kent aka Superman. The riverfront factory town is a shell of what it used to be, and the level of success Burnett has achieved, both personally and professionally, is beyond anything he ever imagined.

The songs on this record are packed with uplifting and motivational lyrics mixed with the epic sonic production ZAYDE WØLF has become known for. “Next Level” encompasses the mentality of what this record is all about. It’s about reaching for new heights and always striving to become the best possible version of yourself you can possibly be. “The Crown” was inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. “Higher Than High” is one of the most personal tracks. “When I was young, we didn't have much,” says Burnett, “but I always had a head full of dreams of what I wanted to do with my life and celebrating others. I wanted this song to make everyone feel like they were standing on a mountain with the sun shining bright in their life.” The motivational nature of of these songs has led ZAYDE WØLF to accrue a dedicated fan base around the world. Modern Alchemy has already charted in over 25 countries on the iTunes overall charts and in the U.S. debuted in the top ten Alternative charts.

In addition to being the creative mastermind behind ZAYDE WØLF, Burnett is also the co-owner of a drum sample and loops company called That Sound that has become a staple for top level artists and producers. The business has more than doubled in the past year, due to the quality of their work, making their live drum samples more in demand than ever before.

With Modern Alchemy, Burnett knows that real achievement is in the journey and the struggle. With this record, he is excited to share his incredible experiences with fans so that they too might be inspired by his journey through the music, to reach for new heights.

THE DAVENPORTS RELEASE "WHERE SHALL WE HANG ELENA?" + ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM

THE DAVENPORTS RELEASE “WHERE SHALL WE HANG ELENA?” + ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM DON’T BE MAD AT ME COMING JULY 13TH

Where Shall We Hang Elena.jpg

New York indie pop group The Davenports have released the single “Where Shall We Hang Elena?” from the forthcoming album Don’t Be Mad at Me due out July 13th.

The Davenports is the long time project of songwriter and musician Scott Klass, who according to the Deli Magazine are “steeped in pop/rock—Ben Folds meets Weezer …leading you to sing along to songs you’re hearing for the first time while stories unfold of relationships gone awry….”

“Where Shall We Hang Elena? ” was inspired by an incredible 60’s/70’s era photo Klass had of his mother, who died when he was only twelve. He wanted to hang the image, but wasn’t sure he wanted the constant reminder of the painful memory. Klass found this dilemma of wanting to honor the life of a loved one, but also being fearful of the pain the constant reminder of their absence would bring to be a relatively universal feeling. Everyone has experienced this mixture of loss, fear and love and it was this idea that sparked  the writing of “ Where Shall We Hang Elena?”  The song is not about his mother, but a fictional girl, who both mesmerized the family and caused them heartache.

Prior Davenports albums have been released to critical acclaim, the songs of which can be heard in a number of films and TV shows, including the song “Five Steps,” which is the theme song to A&E’s Emmy-nominated show Intervention. Although, Klass is at the helm of the writing and creative process behind the Davenports, he has always looked at the project as a collective. “

“Klass writes melodic confections that seep into your psyche and stay…and does so with wit and intelligence.” – Pop Matters

Don’t Be Mad at Me, marks a series of firsts for Klass. Shirley Simms of The Magnetic Fields handles lead vocals on “Miranda in Her Room”--the first Davenport's song to ever feature a lead vocalist other than Klass. The track ”I Don’t Know What to Do”--marks Klass’s entry into the world of co-writing.  Klass wrote the song with Swedish pop musician David Myhr (The Merrymakers) while on a “co-writing tour” of the U.S. The tracks “Miranda in Her Room,” and  “I Don’t Know What to Do” were also collaborations, and in this case long distance international collaborations.

In addition to the Davenports, Klass is member of Look Park, the new project from Fountains of Wayne front man Chris Collingwood which also includes Philip Price of Winterpills. Last year, the trio played Japan’s Fuji Rock festival, opened for Squeeze on their west coast tour, and last Spring Klass and Collingwood supported rock legend Dave Davies of the Kinks.

ANDREW MCKEAG ANNOUNCES HIS SOLO DEBUT

ANDREW MCKEAG OF THE PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF HIS SOLO DEBUT THE ANDREW MCKEAG BAND

Andrew McKeag Band

The San Diego based esteemed guitar player and songwriter, Andrew McKeag, who has devoted his entire life to music has brought his lifelong love affair with rock n roll into his self-titled debut album, The Andrew McKeag Band due out on 11/17 . “This is an album of firsts for me,” says McKeag, “ first time I’ve used my name as the name of the band, first record I made after moving back to Southern California from Seattle in 2014 and a first step of sorts, in establishing my own creative world after years of playing with The Presidents Of The USA.”

If anybody can be the torchbearer for rock and roll it’s Andrew.  He’s performed with Bo Diddley and toured with Javier Escovedo. He  maintains his long-running and storied Seattle seventies rock cover band 70 Proof, which has boasted appearances from the likes of Duff McKagan as well as members of Mother Love Bone, Supersuckers, and more. He has played with a slew of bands up and down the West Coast, namelyShuggie, Hard Roller, Uncle Joe’s Big Ol’ Driver, and currently plays with San Diego’s The Dirty Sweet and Lady Dottie & The Diamonds. In 2005 McKeag joined the multi-platinum iconic Seattle luminaries The Presidents Of The United States of America. He toured everywhere with the band and remained integral to 2008’s critically acclaimed These Are the Good Times People and Kudos to You!  In the fall of 2016, he dove headfirst into penning ideas for what would become the Andrew McKeag Band.

In order to capture this vision, McKeag enlisted the talents of drummer Charlie George and bassist John Krylow and recorded with producer Scott Hackwith [The Ramones] in downtown Los Angeles at Cassette Recordings. Immediately, they tapped into an indescribable and inimitable chemistry.

The album kicks off with a wiry riff from the album opener ”This Old Lie.”  “I wanted to start the record off with this,” says MCkeag, “because it’s where your head’s at when you’re trying to start over. That’s what I was writing about.”

Songs from the album sought inspiration from interesting places like  “Love & Respect,” whose clever intensity is drawn from Facebook rants by a fascinating character who McKeag  describes as “sitting in an apartment smoking weed and sharing videos of great punk and rock ‘n’ roll all day.”

McKeag enlisted a large group of A-list guests, that include  Zander Schloss [Circle Jerks/Joe Strummer/Thelonius Monster] who can be heard on “Ordinary Fool,” guitar legends—Brad Whitford of Aerosmith and Zakk Wylde of Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society, and Zakk Sabbath, who are featured on a searing cover Mountain’s “Never In My Life,” and Ty Bailie [Katy Perry] provides keyboards throughout the album.
