LISTEN // WATCH: “NOTHING LASTS FOREVER”

 Today, with the release of their single and accompanying music video “Nothing Lasts Forever,” Washington, DC-based duo The Slang announces the forthcoming release of their debut LP Divide, due out on September 24th. “Nothing Lasts Forever” is about reliance on an unhealthy vice—lyrically crafted such that the vice could be anything from a significant other to an addiction. "'Nothing Lasts Forever' is about addictions in our lives that we seem to never conquer," says co-founder John Bobo.  "Addiction comes in all shapes and sizes so we wanted a video that interpreted it as an unhealthy relationship.  Maybe she breaks the addiction or will the cycle continue?"  The single, and its cinematic video directed by Adio Ash, is the first chapter of the album's stories.

The album features 10 shimmering alt-rock gems written by co-founders John Bobo and Felix Nieto, and produced by Nieto. “It’s our first full-length album, so we used that to our advantage to take risks that we may not have on our prior EP’s,” explains Bobo. “As the expression goes, ‘Stories Don’t End,’ so what happens after the movie ends and the credits have rolled? Divide is an album about trying to overcome the inevitable, but continues asking that question of ‘what happens next?’”

Offering a distinct blend of power-pop, alternative, and contemporary rock, The Slang is comfortable testing genre lines and taking their time to capture the minutiae of modern life. With a laid-back intensity that infuses their music, lead vocalist/multi-instrumentalist John Bobo serves as the main songwriter while bassist/multi-instrumentalist Felix Nieto focuses on production. Both artists share a kind of low-key perfectionism: hands-on, hyper-attuned to textural detail, and aware of what elevates a song from good to great. “We want to do it right,” says Bobo. “And we’re willing to do whatever it takes to make the best possible track each time.”  

With smooth vocals and striking guitar melodies, The Slang is often compared to bands like Snow Patrol and The Killers, but with a modern twist and more experimental production value. “We care about the experience, whether on headphones or at a live show,” says Nieto, whose production adds a sleekness and edge. Bobo’s introspective lyrics explore singular moments that define human relationships. Nashville’s Alt. Rock chart topper Zayde Wølf, the musical persona of  Grammy nominated producer and songwriter Dustin Burnett has released a beast of a single “Holy Water,” one his most powerful songs to date, a bold statement being that his music has yielded over 400 Million streams and has served as the motivational soundtrack for millions of fans, who have found the strength and inspiration to overcome life’s toughest challenges in Wølf’s music. I get all these emails,” Burnett told Billboard, “with all these stories about how the music has moved people in some way. I wanted to continue to make music for people to be inspired by." 

“Holy Water” follows the formula of some of the most memorable songs ever written, being that it manifested quickly, unexpectedly and was a last-minute addition to the album. It was one of those accidental songs that emerged once Burnett released his creative boundaries as he felt the album was finished. "I didn't try to write ‘Holy Water’ on purpose, it was already in there, a raw and personal moment, just waiting for me to release it,” says Burnett.  "Sometimes when you remove all of your boundaries on your creativity, something new, surprising, and even fantastic emerges. “Holy Water,” which is featured on Spotify's All New Rock and New Noise playlists  follows up the anti-hero inspired song “Madness,” that  Indie Obsessive said was filled with  “thunderous percussion, backing vocal shouts, and crescendos that contribute to the pandemic-like motivational effect that ‘Madness’ builds in listeners,” and was immediately swooped up for us all throughout the NCAA March Madness tournament by CBS and Turner  Sports. “Back At It” Zayde Wølf’s  first taste of the new music this year, was a powerful entry that Apiate called “ an energetic pop/rock track that carries the musician’s signature electronic-infused style. Zayde’s lyrics are reminiscent and uplifting and he delivers the song with infectious exuberance,” setting the tone for what 2021 had in store for Zayde Wølf fans, his third full length album Neon Blood Type. This album follows the 2018 release of Modern Alchemy, Zayde Wølf’s sophomore full-length album, which charted in over 25 countries on the iTunes charts and debuted in the top ten on the iTunes Alternative chart in the U.S. within hours of its release.

ZAYDE WØLF has released an incredible music video for his latest single “Rumble” featuring world-renowned gamer DrLupo to celebrate National Video Games Day. “Rumble” started out as a small yet mighty chorus roaring around in his head which then became a full-formed explosive and arena-ready track. The video follows DrLupo along on his journey through a game of Fortnite

DrLupo is Ben Lupo, a talented gamer and Twitch broadcaster with over 3.5M followers. Los Angeles rockers NEXT CItY have released their second single “Tell Me” along with an incredible video out everywhere today. It’s hot off the success of their debut “Blue Star,” whose video has now amassed over 60K views. In addition to the release of the single, the band has also launched a Kickstarter campaign filled with exclusive merch, signed photos, personalized messages and more as rewards for their fans.

Lyrically, this song is all about the back and forth of being involved with someone, but being unsure of what they want from you. Philip Paulsen (guitarist) started with a riff and composition, then handed it off to Larsen for lyrics and melody, a perfect example of the dynamic duo’s synergetic work.

Los Angeles band NEXT CIty is making their sonic assault on the world with the release of their debut single  “Blue Star.” NEXT CIty is the creation of vocalist (and renowned actor) Samuel Larsen, best known for his work on Glee as the Joe Hart character, and his supporting role in the current hit film After , based on the novel by Anna Todd that became a worldwide phenomenon and guitarist Philip Paulsen. The two met while on tour together and began writing for a brand new project that would be heavy in garage rock grit, layered over a foundation steeped in groove, with the intention of getting people to shake off their inhibitions and dance. The band is rounded out by bassist Nick Diiorio, and drummer Ben Brinckerhoff who have helped to perfect the band’s brand of guitar-driven rock influenced heavy hitters like Death From Above 1979, The Dead Weather and Queens of The Stone Age, all while encompassing the electric energy of funk driven pop music that takes its cues from Prince and Michael Jackson.

Following releasing solo music in the pop and funk world, Larsen had the itch to start a rock band, to write and perform with. “ ‘Blue Star’ was the first song I started working on with a band in mind”, says Larsen. “I had the riffs and lyrics for a while before I met Phil and I felt stuck,  like I couldn't fully finish it, so I handed it off to Phil and he tightened up the arrangement, added a falsetto hook in the chorus and together we added a bridge.” “Blue Star” is inspired by the dichotomy between the dream and the reality of Hollywood and how it can be the dream but also the nightmare. The song is performed from the point of Hollywood and that they are enticing the dreamer with the bright dreams, but haunting her with the harsh reality too.

Later this summer, in addition to the release of their second single "Tell Me”, the band will be playing Los Angeles on June 5th at the Peppermint Club (tickets and info HERE) and June 11 in New York at the Mercury Lounge (tickets and info HERE).

The four songs that make up American Feelings all harken to the lack of discourse and engagement prevalent in society today, especially with technology serving as both a facilitator and barrier.

“Mr. Telephone” was written from observing the feelings of isolation, anxiety and the lack of connection in fans, friends, family and society as a whole, much of it fueled by technology. “With social media creating transparency, we can see so much more,” says Josh Hogan.  “We’re all so available & we get answers in a matter of seconds. Some of us thrive in this environment, and some just can’t seem to cope.” The pointed social commentary is delivered through a subtle hypnotic melody and sweeping infectious choruses that have become the band’s signature.

“We are all Mr. Telephone,” says Katie Earl  “seeking answers from a device in the palm of our hands, but after all is said and done, how much more connected are we? How much can we gain from spending time inside our phones, and how much do we lose? There is a lot of love and knowledge and connection outside of our little boxes, and finding a balance is more crucial than ever before.”
