SINGLE “LITTLE IN LOVE'” OUT NOW || LISTEN

Philadelphia-based duo Andrew Fullerton (vocals, guitar) and Matt Orlando (vocals, banjo) - behind the quirky, punchy nügrass band Who? What? When? Why? & Werewolves? – find their full voice on the sophomore album Hard Feelings available 8/13/21.

Today, they release the second single “Little In Love” where Fullerton negotiates with a friend about checking into rehab.

“There’s a definite energy to the band Who? What? When? Why? & Werewolves, and the touch of banjo slowly building its way in to anchor [“Little In Love”] is a sweet touch. Enjoy the Americana sentiments of what’s sometimes known as the “6w” band. And really — who isn’t a little in love with everyone?” - Americana Highways

The forthcoming album continues their subversive and often humorous approach to heavy subjects. “This record is about the difficult conversations we have with ourselves, our partners, and our friends and family” says Fullerton, “And also how do we have these conversations with empathy.”

“It’s just the two of us when we tour, so Andrew and I have these very deep, existential conversations about our lives, love, nihilism, music, and all these different things,” adds Orlando. “The songs were born from those conversations”

“…indicative of that easy folk approach, with a light, country tone that’s easy on the ears… a beautiful and wistful fiddle. You may be pursuing what you love, but there are residual effects of that, some of which are not always so positive on others.” – V13

About Who? What? When? Why? & Werewolves?

Philadelphia’s Who? What? When? Why? & Werewolves? was born from a football injury and a Christmas gift.

In 2016, Matt Orlando, a drummer by trade, was hurt in a casual flag football game, rendering him unable to play his drums. He picked up a banjo to pass the time during his convalescence. Meanwhile, his friend and longtime collaborator Andrew Fullerton had recently been gifted a mandolin, which he was figuring out quickly.

The pair’s casual front porch jam sessions combined traditional folk and bluegrass tunes with stripped down versions of songs from Fullerton’s long-running alt country outfit The Tressels. To test their mettle (and dedication) they booked a show under the most ridiculous name they could think of.

“We didn’t think we’d make it this far” Orlando states honestly.

The 6W (as they shorthand themselves) released their debut record Greatest Hits in 2019. The record was called an “intense, emotional brand of indie-folk-bluegrass” by Americana Highways and the band was regularly labeled as “defiant” for their refusal to adhere to Folk and Bluegrass traditions. Their live show is a combination of intimate storytelling and self-deprecating humor ala Loudon Wainwright III or the Milk Carton Kids, which has endeared them to audiences as far apart as a South Philly anarchist punk house to the prestigious Folk Alliance International.

WATCH  “DRINK”:  HERE

Northern California’s Destroy Boys are excited to announce the release of the video for their latest single  “Drink” along with summer and fall tour dates. The song was produced and mixed by Will Yip (Mannequin Pussy, The Menzingers, Quicksand, Code Orange etc.) Hopeless Records last month. “ ‘Drink’ [the song] is about being in a cycle of addiction that you can’t seem to escape,” says front person Alexia Roditis. “The video is about having visions that you’re afraid of becoming real life, becoming something you can’t control anymore. You’re not sure if you like this place you’ve been to before. But when you are deep enough to realize what’s going on, and that you want to change, sometimes it feels like it’s too late. “  The video takes the viewer through a hazy day in the life of the protagonist whose reality is someone between dreaming and reality.  “When dealing with alcoholism, days can often run together,” says director Katie Neuhof. “ Janet [our lead] is trapped in a never-ending cycle of work and drinking at the bar. Each time she enters the bar, things escalate, but she never notices. Finally, the other bar patrons take her to the dark side with them, trapping her in the bar forever”

Destroy Boys are a three-piece band founded by Violet Mayugba (guitar/vocals) and Alexia Roditis (vocals/guitar). Rounded out by drummer Narsai Malik they have been redefining West Coast punk, making waves from the California shoreline to the UK, sharing stages with up and coming bands like Mannequin Pussy as well as punk stalwarts such as Face To Face and Lagwagon. In addition to having racked up over 60 million streams, their music can be heard in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 game, and Tik Tok has embraced them to the tune of 20 thousand user-made videos and over 3.5M views. Their visceral personal tales have won over the hearts and ears of eager listeners who pack out their shows.

The band has been outspoken advocates for a myriad of social justice issues, especially when it comes to racial equality, LGBTQA+ rights, and inclusion for all, which is prevalent in their music, their actions, and how they use their platform. Frontperson Alexia Roditis told Punkzine, “I think the scene is opening up and people are realizing that queer people, POC, people of different abilities, fat people, women, make BADASS MUSIC that is underappreciated. These people have always been in the scene and always made art, and I think we are moving towards appreciating it and uplifting those voices more. I am happy to have been a part of that for some people.”  After more than a year of no live music the band is thrilled to be getting back on the road this summer starting Sad Summer Tour, dates with the Story So Far, and rounded out by headlining shows in the fall.

MISS TESS RELEASES NEW SINGLE  “REAL CHANGE”

LISTEN: “REAL CHANGE”

Today, Nashville chanteuse Miss Tess released her brand new single, “Real Change.” The song was written with Maya de Vitry a month or two after the death of George Floyd. “The world was on fire,” recalls Miss. Tess. “Of all the sadness and loss already experienced through the onset of a global pandemic, I thought maybe it all happened for a reason. Most of our working systems came to a standstill for the first time in recent history, and the world had time to listen, watch, and react.”

While the conversations are not new, people of all shapes and colors were and are willing to fight for accountability. “A lot of us have had the luxury of not knowing for a very long time. It’s much harder not to notice now, but it seems like you still never really understand until it happens to you or someone you love,” Miss Tess explains. “Our power and money-hungry machines are always waiting in the wings to push their agendas and keep us divided with their tools of racism, misogyny, and exploitation. ‘Divide and conquer’ as the old saying goes. The people must remember how much power they have. My goal is not to preach from some high pulpit but rather to spread a humble message of hope and unity. As we emerge from this dark pandemic cocoon may we continue practicing the power of love and awareness toward our fellow humans,” she continues. “The world will never be perfect, but we have to keep trying, and insisting that real change is possible."

“Real Change” was co-produced by Miss Tess and Thomas Bryan Eaton (guitar), and also features Lindsay Lou and Rachael Davis (background vocals), John Pahmer (piano, organ), Rhees Williams (bass), and Dan Holmes (drums). Miss Tess will donate 100% of the song’s proceeds to Nashville racial justice nonprofit Gideon’s Army*, a community-based, grassroots organization that uses restorative justice programs to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline through social activism by children, families, and the community. WATCH: “REAL CHANGE”

When most people think of defiant music, they think of punk rock or outlaw country. But defying genres while transcending eras and resisting clichés is hard to pin down when it comes to artistry unless you're talking about Miss Tess, who does all of that and more. Swinging for the fences and from the branches of jazz, country, blues, and old school rock and roll, she employs all of her influences and talents while cleverly taking standard perspectives and ideas - like the definition of a love song - to task. From soulful swagger to jazz, blues, a little old school country, and even a touch of psychedelia, Miss Tess shows both the pluck and poise to fold a multitude of styles into her own. In early 2020, Miss Tess released her acclaimed LP The Moon Is An Ashtray, co-produced with Andrija Tockic and lauded by Billboard, Rolling Stone Country, No Depression. Wide Open Country, The Boot, and more.

*ABOUT GIDEON’S ARMY: Gideon’s Army is a community-based, grassroots organization that works to design programs based on contemporary interpretations of the theory of restorative justice. As a locally-based organization with a long-term goal for state-wide expansion, Gideon’s Army is currently the only local organization in Nashville that focuses solely on dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline through social activism by children in the prison pipeline, their families, and their community. Utilizing research-based best practices combined with community outreach, Gideon’s Army builds its restorative justice programs based upon this information and uses program results to guide its policy work. Through intensive volunteer and community training as well as dialogue, we as a community lead and work together throughout the entire process. The organization uniquely emphasizes youth empowerment and community member leadership as well as direct interfacing with families, the juvenile courts, and the public school system. Gideon’s Army facilitators, mentors, and other volunteers are members of the North Nashville community who train fellow youth, educators, and others in continuing the process of educating. This training structure creates a positive cyclical pipeline based in restorative juice to combat the destructive effects of the school-to-prison pipeline.

ABOUT Seinfeld

An Emmy and Golden Globe winner for Best Comedy Series, Seinfeld is one of the most popular and award-winning comedy series of all time. Jerry Seinfeld stars as a stand-up comedian whose life in New York City is made even more chaotic by his quirky group of friends who join him in wrestling with life's most perplexing, yet often trivial questions. Often described as "a show about nothing," Seinfeld mines the humor in life's mundane situations like waiting in line, searching for a lost item, or the trials and tribulations of dating. Co-starring are Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Jerry's ex-girlfriend and current platonic pal, Elaine Benes; Jason Alexander as George Costanza, Jerry's neurotic hard-luck best friend; and Michael Richards as Jerry's eccentric neighbor, Kramer.

ABOUT WATERTOWER MUSIC

WaterTower Music, the in-house label for the WarnerMedia companies, releases recorded music as rich and diverse as the companies themselves. It has been the soundtrack home to many of the world’s most iconic films, television shows and games since 2001.

LIZ VICE RELEASES HER REIMAGINED VERSION OF

“THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND ”
“Vice’s minor chord version rings with a spaciousness that opens it poignantly into a lament: a lament for the unjust killings of black men and women and indigenous peoples by police brutality and unjust systemic racism. “ - Folk Alley (on “This Land is Your Land”

“Chance the Rapper and Kanye West may use gospel elements to give their music a reverent lilt, but the genre hasn’t had many crossover evangelists since Kirk Franklin’s hip-hop bombast brought it to the pop charts in the 1990s. Enter Ms. Vice, whose version of gospel is more rootsy than radio. She has a rich voice that fits easily into her groovy yet understated arrangements; the result recalls the gentle revival of artists like Leon Bridges. “ - The New York Times

“Liz Vice walks the stony road to redemption, delivering tunes that celebrate the victory over the illusions that hold us down while acknowledging the heavyweight of self-doubt and missed opportunities for loving others that we bear.” - No Depression

“Liz Vice is unpretentious and uncomplicated on Save Me, a gospel album that aims straight for the spirit. Vice’s faith-based music, influenced by legends Mavis Staples and Sister Rosetta Tharpe, is lifting.”

- Bitch Magazine

“The mindfulness she brings to the stories she tells on Save Me proves essential, and powerful.” - NPR

LISTEN TO “THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND”: HERE

In August of 2018  Liz Vice sat down with friends Paul Zach and Orlando Palmer just one day shy of the Unite the Right Rally 1 year anniversary, to re-work the Woody Guthrie classic “This Land is Your Land,” with the intention of writing lyrics that reflected the origin story of America. This powerful version of “This Land is Your Land,” performed by Liz Vice, is out today on all digital platforms, purposely released to coincide with the July 4th Holiday this weekend. “ There are a lot of reasons to celebrate being American,” Vice told Folk Alley, “but one thing that must first be talked about is the history. Healing can’t begin without first acknowledging the gaping wound created by the colonization, the mass genocide of the Indigenous people, and the enslavement of African slaves. There is still much work to be done.”

Liz Vice is somewhat of an accidental artist. "Artist" is a label the Los Angeles resident by way of Portland, Oregon has been pretty resistant to most of her career up until now. At age 19, Liz was put on hemodialysis due to failing health. Her life was saved by a kidney transplant she received in 2005. After college, Liz set out to pursue a career in film production, but when she joined up with a new church and began to sing with a worship team on Sundays, everything changed. She got the call, a call she knows was from God to share the gift of her voice with anyone who would listen.

Liz Vice’s sound is a fusion of Gospel and R&B, with dynamic and soulful vocals, and lyrics, deeply rooted in spirituality, that give her work a  timeless feel. Her last full-length album, Save Me, her sophomore album, debuted in the top 25 on the Billboard Gospel charts, was featured in NPR’s  First Listen program, received praise from the New York Times, No Depression, American Songwriter, The Bluegrass Situation, Bitch Magazine and more.  Vice’s music and live performances have put her on the map as an artist to watch. She has shared the stage with artists such as Lake Street Dive, Rodriguez, Joss Stone, The Wood Brothers, Lecrae, Blind Boys of Alabama and performed at Mavis Staple’s 80th Birthday at the Apollo alongside Mike Taylor of His Golden Messenger, David Byrne, Norah Jones, Jon Batiste, Warren Haynes and more.

Today, Oregon-based sound artist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Nick Byron Campbell, who records and performs under the moniker Left Vessel, has released his debut LP One (and Driftless), mixed by Cory Hanson (of Los Angeles-based band Wand), via GiftShop Records.

“This album is an attempt to cut away layers, sonically and thematically, to get to a simple core, playing and singing about basic things that have become really important to me in recent years,” says Campbell of the record, which bears overarching themes of respect for nature and the interconnectedness of all things.

[Text Wrapping Break]Campbell, whose music has been featured in films like Marcel Sarmiento's Faceless and television shows like “This Is Us,” thought: "What if you could make music with a tree? Not cutting it down and turning it into an instrument, but actually with a living tree, in a way that was beautiful musically but allowed that tree to go on living its life once you were done performing with it?” During his residency as the Crystal Creek Citizen-Artist in Houston, Minnesota, Campbell had the chance to explore Minnesota's Driftless Area in search of willing wooden participants.

“The residency provided me with a period of time at a cabin in the woods where I could focus, write and work,” Campbell recalls. “But as part of the program, I also engaged with the local community during my time there, and that itself was really inspiring. The song ‘Society,’ in fact, came about during a tour through a nearby historical society - a older and very kind local man slowly walked me through this beautiful, and incredibly full, museum, and I gathered most of the sounds heard in that song (drums, pump organ, various other unique sounds) on my field recorder while we walked around, and then turned it all into a song,” he adds. “The people there were wonderful.”

The album features several tracks recorded with trees, complete with ambient sounds of the forest in the background—chirping birds, fluttering wings, and feet keeping time on crunchy, fallen leaves. Campbell used his own unique instrumental creation he dubbed "the arbow." The arbow (a play on the Spanish word “arbol,” for tree) is a live tree that is strung, bowed or plucked, and amplified—all in a way that doesn't damage the tree. The core idea is to find a way of making “non-extractive” music: music that doesn't hurt our world but works with it. This video illustrates Campbell’s process: https://vimeo.com/366830629/bff361fd5b

The tracks encompass ideas of love and loss, the intricacies of relationships in tracks like “Your Winter,” and even visions had on a shamanic journey, the inspiration for “This Year Be.”

 WATCH: “THIS YEAR BE”

WATCH “YOUR WINTER”

One (and Driftless) works in two parts: the first half illustrates relationships with nature, reflecting on how we as humans are so essentially tied to nature, but behave as if we aren’t. The second half explores relationships with other people, similarly reflecting on how deeply tied we are to one another, a timely message in this era of environmental stress and social strife.

Left Vessel’s swirling brand of indie-folk, though experimental in its creation, is imminently accessible due in large part to Campbell’s adeptness with winding, catchy hooks. Taken as a whole, One (and Driftless) is a collection of songs about transformation: ecological, societal, personal, and romantic.

SPOTIFY // BANDCAMP

Today, El Paso’s favorite alt-punk band Emily Davis and The Murder Police released their new LP Never A Moment Alone. Never A Moment Alone is varied thematically, but one of the central premises is the lack of foresight humans continue to display with regard to climate change and our lack of preparedness for other crises,” front person Davis explains. “We prioritize the wrong things and we aren't taking seriously the biggest threats to our wellbeing and existence.”

That theme is more explicitly stated in album tracks “Why Weren't They Stunned” and “Apartment Homes,” a nihilistic yet sonically upbeat and cheerful song that’s basically a big "what-if"—what will the world look like if we don't alter our habits? Will we all have to share apartment homes and eat from the same plate?

WATCH: “WHY WEREN’T THEY STUNNED?”

Through dry humor, clever lyrics, and high-energy musicianship, the band tackles the world and society's penchant for head-scratching behavior with clever lyrics and dry humor as they offer commentary on excessive patriotism expressed in our culture's worship of the flag in songs like "God Hates Flags, a quarantine love song in “Eden Is The Worst,” and substance abuse as escapism in “Artificial Happiness.”

With “Semicolon,” Davis, who lives with ADHD and Bipolar II, relays a candid take on mental health. “I wanted it to be relatable to anyone who might struggle with their mental health in one way or another,” they explain of the track, its title inspired by Project Semicolon whose the tag line, is “You don't have to end your sentence.” Davis also sees a semicolon as fixed between two separate entities—and for the person with bipolar disorder, those entities are mania and depression.

WATCH: “SEMICOLON”

Davis, a former member of Cigarettes After Sex and desert-punk shredder, has a powerful voice reminiscent of legends (and personal influences) like Dolores O'Riordan, Jenny Lewis, and Neko Case, and The Murder Police—Jorge Torres (electric guitar, backing vocals), Jose Macias (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Tomas Tinajero (drums, backing vocals)—back Davis up like a freight train of energy.

EDMP has found success across the nation through their poignant music, lyrical vulnerability, and creatively engaging social media presence. Davis has had a fascinatingly unique journey to the national stage. Their YouTube channel, featuring numerous punk rock covers (of, most notably, Bad Religion) has drawn serious attention—accumulating nearly seven million views. Davis has clearly proven their talent deserves to be noticed, and noticed they were, leading to the band’s most significant outing to date—an opening slot on legendary punk band Bad Religion’s 2019 fall tour to packed venues across the country.

The band has some significant accomplishments under their belt, even beyond their 2019 run with Bad Religion. In 2017, Davis toured solo with Bad Religion frontman Greg Graffin, supporting his at-the-time recently released solo record, Millport. In 2019 alone, the band opened for Leftover Crack, The Toasters, Authority Zero, and alt-rock cult superstars Cold War Kids.

With Never A Moment Alone, the EDMP’s second full-length effort, Davis has deftly continued to curate a brilliantly unique blend of 90’s-inspired alt-rock, folk, and punk that will expand your horizons while it tests your speakers. Never A Moment Alone is available for purchase on their website, and at BandcampiTunes, and Amazon

EDMP will celebrate the album’s release tonight in El Paso, Texas with a live show at Love Buzz. The band will also perform live at Launchpad in Albuquerque, New Mexico on July 23rd, and in Santa Fe, New Mexico at Tumbleroot Brewery & Distillery on July 24th. Be sure to follow EDMP at the links below for more upcoming tour announcements.

DEBUT ALBUM FROM LOS ANGELES

SINGER/SONGWRITER JOE BOURDET

MEADOW ROCK OUT NOW

“Beyond the stirring melodies and lyrics of Bourdet’s songs, what imbues Meadow Rock with its resonant, layered vibe is that every note on the album (in true 1970s classic rock style) was played on a genuine instrument… Meadow Rock embodies that untamed and creative spirit.” – Golden State

“EL CAPITAN” VIDEO || WATCH

Los Angeles singer/songwriter Joe Bourdet “writes in dreamscape throwback 70s folk styles, and splendid high-end electric guitar solos abound…of nostalgia.” (- Americana Highways ) on his debut album Meadow Rock (out now).

The nine-song set inspired by our natural surroundings of California – including the mountain ranges throughout.

“El Capitan” is about the Yosemite Valley and the Sierras, where “the protagonist senses deeper metaphysical vibrations amid memories of past visits with loved ones.” “Amongst The Pines” was written on an evening drive up Mount Baldy in the San Gabriel Mountains. “The arrangement is somewhat in tribute to a Gordon Lightfoot or Ozark Mountain Daredevils style production,” explains Joe. The accompanying video is comprised of footage shot by Joe and Dave Baine (who plays mandolin on the track) on a 9-day backpacking trip in the High Sierra trails.

And  “Lost Along The Way” co-written with Alana Amram is a semi-autobiographical song is “loosely based on breaking down in my Datsun 240z on the Pacific Coast Highway very late night near El Capitan State Beach,” explains Joe.

BUZZ FOR MEADOW ROCK

“Amongst The Pines” leans heavily into its serene nature setting, placing the listener in the untarnished natural beauty of its titular pines. Fittingly, the instrumentation is similarly pastoral, carrying rich acoustic tones as Bourdet’s vocals recall vintage Americana and singer/songwriter heroes. Though the record is a studio creation it instead feels refreshingly authentic, as if you’ve joined Bourdet and company around the campfire as they tribute peaceful alpine passages.” – Under The Radar

“Over spacious drums and a 60s folk-inspired sound… backing harmonies add an ethereal touch reminiscent of Peter, Paul and Mary or the Mamas & the Papas. It’s a dreamy soundscape of a song that embraces the beauty of life’s surprising turns. Sometimes you get lost and it’s best to lean into it.” – Holler Country

“Giving a nod to 70s folk-rock and singer-songwriters of that era, Bourdet puts his own signature spin on the music explaining that the sound is more “Topanga Canyon” than the widely known sound of LA’s Laurel Canyon.” – Turnstyled Junkpiled

“…an homage to the soft, singer-songwriter pop-rock of the mid-to-late ‘70s close your eyes and dream of the simpler life before technology invaded every corner of our lives on the nine well-crafted tracks” – The Big Takeover

“Joe Bourdet provides some high-end lead guitar tone that is endearing alongside his mellow vocal style on this debut [Meadow Rock]…. For young ears, this music may be too sublime. To older nostalgive ears its singer-songwriter heaven with poignancy, good takes, tight musicianship & melodies – more homegrown & organic in nature.” – Americana Highways

“…an album dripping with soft acoustic guitars, divine slide and pedal steel, and vocal harmonies to die for.” – At The Barrier

ABOUT JOE BOURDET

Highway 49 is called the golden chain highway and connects numerous tiny hamlets as it weaves through the river canyons of the California gold country. This is the area where Joe Bourdet spent his youth, and it provided the formative images which inspired the music of his debut album Meadow Rock.

Having had the good fortune to be born into a musical family, his uncle, Mike Bonnington, and San Francisco jazz musician Jack Minger set the example that music life, though it “ain’t no good life”, in fact was possible. Since picking up guitar in high school, Bourdet’s musical world has grown into a host of technical and artistic areas. He repairs, restores, modifies, and occasionally even builds his instruments and recording equipment. He operates his own home studio which he describes as a “project studio PLUS”. Having also accrued a handful of sometimes white-knuckle experiences as an audio engineer in music and film productions, Bourdet was able to engineer, mix, and produce his own debut album. Even if, as he is quick to point out, he did so with more than a little help from his friends, and indeed also from some of the top professional technicians in music.

Musically, Bourdet plays various guitar styles, including slide, and occasionally bass. He sings with a neutral singer-songwriter flare, and considers himself merely an “enthusiast” as a keyboardist. In addition to writing or co-writing most of the compositions on his debut, he also built the song arrangements up via careful overdubbing. It’s a process he likens to an obsessive Steely Dan style discipline, with the exception that tempo drifts and imperfect/ naturalistic sounds were generally embraced.

Drawing on life experiences, Betty Reed relates stories of everyday life through her music. Struggles. Triumphs. Journeys. Her expressive vocals and clever lyrics resonate throughout her debut EP Mistakes Made, Lessons Learned, out September 3, 2021. Today, she releases the first single, “Karma” that premiered on AudioFemme earlier this week.

“I decided to make this the first release because it truly captures the flavor and feel of what I'm trying to convey in the overall theme of the EP... independence, standing up for oneself, moving forward from past mistakes,” says Reed.

For the EP, the Berklee College of Music graduate collaborated with Nashville producer, Bill McDermott to create an eclectic collection of songs that showcase Reed’s ability to write and perform across the musical spectrum. The title of the EP is derived from all the missteps the young singer/songwriter has taken in her life and career, putting it all behind her as she continues to move forward and grow as an artist.

Many of Reed’s song are about her experiences with depression — the ways in which she finds her way out of the dark and into the light. You can hear this theme in “Let It Out” and “Happy.”

“Misunderstood” is about finding the strength to assert yourself. “Karma” is about that moment you are free from an abusive relationship while the other person finally gets their comeuppance.

“Even though the subject matter of most of songs is serious, I mask it with an upbeat vibe—it’s this veneer of cheeriness that you feel you have to project in order to feel normal.”

Mistakes Made, Lessons Learned will be released on September 3, 2021.

New Zealand-born, indie-pop chanteuse Lisa Crawley moved to Los Angeles in early 2020, after career forays in London and Melbourne. Earlier this month, she released the single “The Right Way,” from the forthcoming EP Looking For Love (In A Major).

“The Right Way” was co-written and produced with Grammy-nominated Rob Kleiner. Lisa and Rob bonded over Jon Brion, The Dresden and The Office (UK). These are just some of the iconic cultural influences that forged the creative process behind “The Right Way”. Today, she releases the highly reflective video directed by Heather Ballish that embraces awkwardness, hindsight and introspection, out next week.

“…an impressive peek into Crawley’s style. With a free-flowing melody dancing above a laid-back, soulful groove, the single hits a sweet spot, production-wise. And between the sheer vibes of the tune and Crawley’s transportive lyricism, the finished product is a truly communicative expression, employing rhythm, harmony and verse to depict a complex feeling.” – American Songwriter

Lisa is a four-time APRA Silver Scroll Award nominee, and was twice selected for the prestigious Banff Centre songwriter residency (Canada), where many of her notable songs were written.

A natural collaborator, Lisa has worked with luminary antipodean songwriters Tim Finn, Greg Johnson and Hugo Race, and created her show “Elizabeth” with Bullet Heart Club (Daffodils). Lisa has performed her own song arrangements with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra and opened for Suzanne Vega, John Mayer, Jools Holland, Paul Weller and Simply Red. More recently, Lisa donned her acting hat to star as ‘GIRL’ in the Tony Award-winning musical ‘Once’.

Over the past year, Lisa harnessed her insatiable creative drive to write “Show You What Love Is”, “Tragedy Boy”, “Clear History” and “See Me Soon”’ all produced with Grammy-nominated Rob Kleiner. Lisa’s songs also graced the airwaves of US TV shows “Nancy Drew”, “Good Trouble”, “Stumptown”, and “Proven Innocent”.

Her upcoming EP ‘Looking For Love (In A Major)’ will be released on July 23, 2021.

Oregon-based sound artist Nick Byron Campbell, who records and performs under the moniker Left Vessel, has released his latest single, “This Year Be.” The song appears on his forthcoming debut LP One (and Driftless) mixed by Cory Hanson (of Los Angeles-based band Wand) and out on June 25th via GiftShop Records. “I have an aunt who’s a shaman. For a while we were training together and she was showing me the art of shamanic journeying,” Campbell recalls. “In my journeys with her, I took the form of a fox that would disappear down into a hole in a creek bed by my grandma’s old house in Ohio, where I grew up. Inside that hole was another world. This song came out of those journeys,” he adds. “The faint vocal hook that trails out at the end of the song was my shamanic song that was given to me during one of the journeys.”

“Envision the idyllic summer day, full of bright sunshine tempered by a cool breeze. There’s always a feel of optimism on those days, coupled with an innate connection to nature, and an almost inexplicable urgency to make the most of the world around us,” said Mother Church Pew in the song’s premiere. “With a dreamy folk haze, those summer sensations are synthesized into song on ‘This Year Be’…Campbell’s delicate-yet-expressive vocals are set beautifully to an acoustic melody full of playful banjo and building strings. The song is a bright, orchestral folk jam that’s a perfect refresher on these summer days.”

“This Year Be” follows the release of album track “Your Winter,” inspired by life transformations and deep connection with others who are on a completely different trajectory.

LISTEN // WATCH “YOUR WINTER”

Campbell, a multi-talented composer, artist, and indie-folk maestro has previously helmed the bands Wages, Sincere Gifts, and Arizona, and his music has been featured in films and television shows. When constructing Left Vessel’s debut LP One (and Driftless) Campbell thought: "What if you could make music with a tree? Not cutting it down and turning it into an instrument, but actually with a living tree, in a way that was beautiful musically but allowed that tree to go on living its life once you were done performing with it?” He set out to do just that and traveled to Minnesota's Driftless Area in search of willing wooden participants.

One (and Driftless) features several tracks recorded with trees, complete with ambient sounds of the forest in the background—chirping birds, fluttering wings, and feet keeping time on crunchy, fallen leaves.

“We are in times of uncertainty, but I believe the answer to our problems is the four-letter word, ‘love’.” - MAXIM

Multi-faceted UK based musician and mixed media artist Maxim has launched a series NFT’s in collaboration with digital artist WLS (Eugene Riecansky) best known for his work with Prodigy, NIN, HIM, Madonna, Pixar and more. Maxim, who in addition to being part of the hard-hitting and chart-topping group Prodigy is an acclaimed mixed-media artist. His most recent exhibit is a series called "Hope," a hybrid of sculpture, music, and film,  which is available to view and experience online (on his website) and was on display at London’s new 99 Projects gallery.

The series is a powerful and poignant collaboration with artist Dan Pearce, born out of the pandemic entitled “Hope” The series features 50 limited edition sculptures,  hand-painted colors with ten special editions, which have Swarovski Crystals added by Dan and Maxim. The two artists spent over a year in lockdown creating this ambitious, multi-platform collaboration, which is inspired by the “Hope” that everybody is clinging onto, as we gradually ease out of the devastation wreaked by Coronavirus. The sculpture is based on Pearce’s son - wearing a gas mask and preparing to pull the pin on a clear, resin grenade, containing a heart, which represents the vaccine and the hope that will help us navigate our post-lockdown worlds. The grenade is a recurring symbol and theme in Maxim’s art, which includes highly sought-after paintings, prints, and sculptures created during his 18 years in the art world. The pieces demonstrate Dan’s skills in 3D modeling and Maxim’s experience floating objects in resin.

Each piece also contains bespoke memory cards housing an exclusive 4 track Hope  EP from Maxim, that will only be available via the sculptures until the end of the summer (August) where he will release the new music out wide via streaming services. In addition to the EP the exhibit has an accompanying short film also entitled Hope starring Pearce’s son that tells the story of the sculpture. The film touches on the mental health implications the virus has had on children, showing the 11-year-old son Jackson living through the pandemic. It also references the pandemic’s impact on homelessness - with a moving cameo from Maxim, playing a person living on the streets - as well as austerity, with touching food bank scenes. The soundtrack to the film is also titled Hope is one of the four songs on the EP being packaged with the pieces.

The physical exhibit opened on May 20 and in addition to being on display at 99 Projects, one sculpture will also be donated to NHS Charities Together, one to the young people’s mental health charity, YoungMinds, and one to the homeless charity Shelter, to raise funds for those most affected by the COVID, the themes of which are explored in the moving film.

The resin grenades containing the hearts have been repurposed into an NFT multiple edition series NFT’s. The series will be dropped on Rarible platform on Friday, the 18th of June. The edition consists of 16 various grenades available in 1/1 and ⅕ copies. NFTs are unique as each has a special sound cover.  Where most grenades cause destruction these grenades  spread love and tap into a different energy source. The animations are accompanied by original music compositions created and produced by Maxim.

ALBUM HARD TIMES OUT 6/18 || LISTEN HERE

Heartland rocker Keeton Coffman will release his new album Hard Times on 6/18/21. On Wednesday, 6/16, Keeton will make his Ditty Debut with the video for “Hard Times,” airing on Ditty TV at 10 pm CT.

Anchored in Coffman’s natural storytelling and earthy voice, Hard Times is both a reintroduction and a return for an artist who’s pushed through starts and stops, but who’s never been anything but exactly who he is. “I’ve never needed someone’s permission to write,” Coffman says. “I’ve always just thought it’s what I should do.”

Keeton's style of music evokes the small town Texas sound he grew up with, matched with the knuckle and grit of his true Rock and Roll soul. He cut his musical teeth in the Brazos valley, and even though he currently lives in Spring, it will always be home. Most of the characters from this record are rooted in his childhood growing up in Bryan and College Station.

“I hope people find themselves in the characters,” Coffman says. “This is a record I wrote from my experiences, but these aren’t stories about me. I hope these characters share your story, your thoughts, your pain. We can share the same hope––that’s what music does for me.”

BUZZ FOR KEETON COFFMAN

“…an atmospheric exploration of the themes weighing heavy on Coffman’s mind… Matching the tonality of Coffman’s words perfectly, the music behind “Magician” creates a palpable mood. Brooding with a neo-Western twist—but not without a tinge of melancholic hope—the song’s instrumentation peaks with a soaring climax. While the shadow-y feel is propelled in large part by the guitar tones, perhaps the true MVPs of the single are the texture sounds Coffman curated himself.” -American Songwriter

“…a courageous anthem that stings with power pop adhesiveness and jubilant guitar chords. Coffman echoes the sounds of his heroes while projecting his own flair of songwriting singularity.” – Glide Magazine

“…Coffman’s songwriting and musicianship, a soulful sound that harkens back to the days when rock n’ roll felt more stirring and emotional. It may remind you of the heartland rock sound of a young John Mellencamp, or the more Americana flair of Bruce Springsteen. Either way, you’ll be instantly attracted to what Coffman is serving up here.” – V13

“Everything is flawless – every note is perfect, every line delivered with emotional weight, and the tone of the track is somehow bittersweet and upbeat all at once.” – B-Sides & Badlands

ST JOHN'S, NEWFOUNDLAND. - Alan Doyle, Canadian national treasure and unofficial ambassador of Newfoundland's rich musical traditions, returns to the road in 2022 with U.S. tour dates to support his latest album Rough Side Out (2020) and EP, Back to the Harbour - a collection of songs to celebrate his love of folk music – out now. Tickets will be on sale Friday, June 11th at 10 a.m. ET (for most shows).

On the heels of his 2020 album release Rough Side Out, Alan was in the midst of a Canadian national tour when COVID halted the live music industry across the world. “We came home from last year’s tour on March 9, and we never left,” Doyle recently told the San Francisco Examiner in an interview.

Postponing his U.S. tour dates indefinitely, Doyle didn’t sit idle long before performing live stream concerts and recording his new six song EP. Looking for something comforting in a year that had everyone out of sorts, Doyle went back to his roots to rediscover his love of folk music, especially the traditional songs from his native Newfoundland.

"I realize this may seem odd to some, as in most parts of the world people have one or two songs they don't remember learning, like Happy Birthday or Silent Night,” says Alan. “But in Newfoundland we have so many songs that are just part of our language. I doubt many from around here could tell you when they learned I'se The B'y or Lukey’s Boat. We just know them."

Inspired, he wrote three original songs plus unique spins on three classics: "Back Home on the Island" by one of Newfoundland's most popular musical groups Wonderful Grand Band; "Let It Be Me" popularized by legendary duo The Everly Brothers; and the first single, the shanty "Leave Her Johnny."

The result is Back to the Harbour, “a 6-song EP that maintains his quality consistently with an energetic fusion that carries over to his own personal efforts. Songs that are a part of his language.” – Americana Highways

“…his voice is Guinness-thick, and as warm as a Canadian kitchen, where Newfoundlanders traditionally gathered in the winter for family singalongs.” – San Francisco Examiner

Alan Doyle will return to the road in 2022 with his 6-piece band and special guest Chris Trapper. For tickets and full list of dates, visit https://alandoyle.ca/tour/

ABOUT ALAN DOYLE: Back to the Harbour follows Rough Side Out, Doyle's chart-topping country album released last February, and Songs from Home, a collection of music from Doyle and an all-star lineup of Newfoundland artists, which was released in November. Doyle – the songwriter, producer, actor and author – is a 12-time JUNO Award nominee for his solo material and work with his iconic band Great Big Sea. In 2018, he was awarded the Order of Canada for his contributions to the musical traditions of Newfoundland and for his commitment to numerous charitable initiatives. His most recent book, All Together Now: A Newfoundlander's Light Tales for Heavy Times, was released in November 2020 and quickly became a national bestseller.

PARALLEL LOVE: THE STORY OF A BAND CALLED LUXURY

AVAILABLE TODAY ON STREAMING PLATFORMS

FilmPoster.jpeg

PARALLEL LOVE TRAILER || WATCH

The award-winning documentary Parallel Love: The Story of a Band Called Luxury is released on digital platforms including iTunes and Amazon today via Random Media.

“There’s no other band quite like Luxury, the indie rockers from the ’90s who journeyed through tragedy and faith to Eastern Orthodoxy.” – Christianity Today

“a fascinating story… so richly-layered and evocative…” – The Pitch Weekly (KC)

It is the second film from director Matt Hinton who also directed the PBS documentary “Awake My Soul: The Story of The Sacred Harp”.  Parallel Love: The Story of a Band Called Luxury follows the path of Luxury, a band from small-town Georgia, who, on the cusp of success, suffer a devastating touring wreck with long-term consequences. In the intervening years, they continue to make records and three members of the band become Eastern Orthodox priests. Through interviews and archival footage, Parallel Love tells the gripping and poignant story of Luxury and documents the making of a new record, Trophies, now as priests.

In 2019, the film had its theatrical release via Abramorama earning accolades in the media (“an eye opener” - NPR Weekend Edition Saturday; “Vibrant. Full of surprises.” -Film Threat; “I couldn’t take my eyes off it. A brilliant tribute.” -Paste Magazine) and at film festivals including “Best in Fest” for the Covellite International Film Festival and “Audience Award” of the Gasparilla Film Festival.

ABOUT MATT HINTON:  Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Matt Hinton grew up loving movies but believed that rock n roll was the more realistic career path. While playing in various bands, he studied Religion and Philosophy at Georgia State University, followed by graduate school at Emory University where he studied Theology. While teaching Religion at Morehouse and Spelman Colleges in Atlanta, he produced, directed (with his wife, Erica Hinton) and edited “Awake, My Soul: The Story of the Sacred Harp (2008),” his first feature documentary that aired on PBS. “Parallel Love: The Story of a Band Called Luxury” is his second full length documentary film.

ABOUT LUXURY: Chris Foley (bass), Lee Bozeman (vocals), Jamey Bozeman (guitar) and Glenn Black (drums) formed Luxury in the early 90s as a post-punk band influenced by The Smiths and Fugazi. Matt Hinton joined the band in 1999 finalizing their current line-up. After signing to Tooth & Nail for their debut release Amazing and Thank You (1995), Luxury was poised to move to the next level when fate intervened, and a touring wreck changed their fortunes as well as their ambitions. Luxury convalesced and regrouped to put out two additional albums The Latest & The Greatest (1996) and Luxury (1999) before (temporarily) calling it quits. The focus shifted from stardom to family, while Chris, Lee and Jamey also pursued their own path to Orthodox priesthood. Six years later, the band reconvened for their fourth effort Health And Sport (2005). Following a decade long break, the band reconvened to work on material for 2019s Trophies, their latest full length offering. Earlier this year, Luxury released the EP One-Sided on vinyl. Luxury is currently in the studio working on a new album due in late 2021.

NASHVILLE, TENN. - Nashville-based, Texas-raised Americana artist Ross Cooper is touring to support his new release Chasing Old Highs throughout Texas and the Midwest in May and June. Today, he is featured as the “Artist of the Week” on Holler Country who featured the acoustic performance video of the title track ‘Chasing Old Highs”.

“…from the perspective of a rodeo champion, one who can’t keep up with the physical demands of the sport. He recorded a special acoustic version with his dog Jack sitting by his side – well, at least through the first verse. Pups buck to their own time, too.” – Holler Country

With a style akin to Robert Earl Keen and Townes Van Zandt, and tempered by a Springsteen-style spirit of the lost road, for Ross Cooper, songwriting has always been about painting those kind of very real pictures, capturing the moment the hill country fades into dirt and desert, or the moment a career turns from hope to despair. The 11-track record walks that dusty line between Texas and Tennessee, cactuses and river, atmosphere and emotion. It’s in a space all its own announcing a different kind of modern songwriter, one that’s not afraid to smile at the past.

BUZZ

“Cooper’s voice is defiant and haunting as he praises the resilience of his neighbors, who never met a devil they couldn’t tame. ‘It feels like home in a hell,’ the former bronc rider sings of his gritty stomping grounds, ‘but we’re still here, south of the angels.’” – Rolling Stone Country Music Pick for “South of the Angels”

“Ross Cooper is putting his faith in the universe and trying to put his worries out of his mind on his new song ‘Freewheelin’ Feelin’”. – The Boot

“…with a dose of promise and positivity…[“Hello Sunshine”] inspired by the feeling of waking up on a good day…” – American Songwriter

LOS ANGELES, CA –  Australian “singer, songwriter and guitar hero” (-Billboard) Hamish Anderson is excited to release the official music video for his new single “Morning Light”. It premieres today on Under The Radar Magazine.

“Anderson absolutely nails the guitar tone of a classic-era Stones track, delivering brilliantly bluesy guitar soloing, glam rock riffing, and a stomping drum part. The fervent backing vocals hint towards gospel and soul while the guitar offers up pure ‘70s swagger, hitting on a timeless mix of influences that Anderson revives with fresh energy…” – Under The Radar

For the video, Hamish says he found inspiration from “the Yellow Submarine/Sgt Pepper’s animation of The Beatles and also the quirky stop motion style that Monty Python used.  It has a bit of an Alice in Wonderland through the looking glass kind of feel and I hope it takes you on a trip!”

Released last month, “Morning Light” is his first new music since 2019s Out of My Head (winner of Independent Music Award for “Best Blues Album”). It also marks the first collaboration with co-producer David Davis (Miguel, The War on Drugs, Lauren Ruth Ward). The song was remotely produced while Hamish was in lockdown in Melbourne, Australia and the band – bassist Lauren Stockner; drummer Matt Musty (Grace Potter, Train); plus soulful backing vocals by Jessica Childress (Aloe Blacc, Allen Stone) - and producer David Davis were in Los Angeles, CA.

To compliment the acoustic version he’s been performing at live streams throughout the past year, Hamish will release a stripped back acoustic version of “Morning Light” on June 25.

------

“Punchy, bombastic and uplifting with just a pinch of washed-out psychedelia, the single is emblematic of Anderson’s sound as a whole. From the power of the driving rhythm section to the blissful way Anderson’s vocal melody falls over the chord progression, it’s almost impossible to listen to track without feeling a pull to bob your head, almost as if the raw energy of a band playing in a room together was coming right through your headphones…“ - American Songwriter

“Featuring as much ’70s rock swagger as you can handle, with driving guitars and a striking drum beat, [“Morning Light”] comes as a revelation for Anderson, a defining moment in his still-young career.” – V13.net

“…an exquisite blend of old school and contemporary vibes, he gives life to a truly refreshing and exciting sonic realm… There’s something about his voice that just invites us in and makes us feel at ease as we are guided through this unknown world.” – Wolf In A Suit

EARTH CITY 1: THE LONGING  || STREAM/SHARE

LOS ANGELES, CA – Los Angeles-based artist/producer/composer Ethan Gold Earth City 1: The Longing, the first in a trilogy of albums about the alienation of our hyper-connected modern world, today.

The idea for the trilogy came to Ethan after a life changing experience. While working on a film score in New York, Ethan suffered a head injury in a freak accident. Following the accident, Ethan lost his ability to speak and do complex tasks like sound engineering – all of which he had to relearn. Last year, he spoke about the experience with GQ Magazine (South Africa) for an article about the power of meditation and mindfulness that has guided him through his recovery and to today.

He has released several singles from the album including the a-side/b-side: “Alexandria & Me” about the thrill of chasing ghosts of pre-gentrification downtown L.A. through a haunted hotel while hearing echoes of ancient Egypt and it’s counterpart, “In New York” which reaches out with romance and nostalgia to a vanished lover, or the splendor and struggle of life in New York City itself. “Pretty Girls” is about the allure and trap of perceived beauty. And “Bright & Lonely City” captures the isolation and attraction of city life, the video ads a narrative with people from all walks of life and different cities around the world searching for connection.

BUZZ

·       “A beautiful cinematic piece that captures the depths of life from all around the world.” - BTR Today (of “Bright & Lonely City” video)

·       “New York City likely has been the subject of more tributes than any other city on Earth. Ethan Gold adds his voice to the chorus with “In New York.” The gentle piano ballad is carried by gravelly vocals from Gold, extolling the highs, lows, and endless possibilities of the titular city.” – Under The Radar

·       “…a colorful montage that brings Gold’s heartfelt words to the big and small screen.” Glide Magazine

·       “Pretty Girls has quite a simplistic sound to it, but this only serves to make the song sound even more catchy – it’s poppy, yet never sounds too mainstream… a 60s pop feel to the track..” - York Calling

·      “The stark contrast between the two singles [“Alexandria & Me” and “In New York”] only speaks to the ability of Gold to convey a wide range of emotions in his music.” – Chorus.fm

ABOUT ETHAN GOLD:

Ethan Gold first stepped into public consciousness when he produced and arranged Elvis Perkins’ blog-hyped stunner Ash Wednesday. While moonlighting as bass player and resident musician in his brother Ari’s celebrity-driven folk party band the Honey Brothers, and also scoring his twin’s debut film Adventures of Power, Ethan continued honing his intensely sensitive music, eventually self-releasing his debut art rock album Songs From A Toxic Apartment to underground acclaim (“Emotions delivered with an unfiltered, glaring legibility”- Pitchfork) (Essential new releases -The Sunday Times UK). Other recent film scores produced during the recovery from his head injury include The Song of Sway Lake featuring John Grant and the Staves singing Gold’s music and 2019s Don’t Let Go.

ALISA AMADOR’S NEW SINGLE “TIMING” PREMIERES VIA AMERICAN SONGWRITER   DEBUT MINI-ALBUM NARRATIVES OUT ON SEPTEMBER 17TH

ALISA AMADOR’S NEW SINGLE “TIMING” PREMIERES

VIA AMERICAN SONGWRITER

DEBUT MINI-ALBUM NARRATIVES OUT ON SEPTEMBER 17TH

LISTEN: “TIMING”

Today, Boston-based artist Alisa Amador unveils “Timing,” the groove-laden lead single from her forthcoming mini-album Narratives, set for release on September 17th. Lively, optimistic, and wry, the song addresses the frustrating yet exciting realization that you’ve found love, but the timing is off. “Alisa Amador sings with the ease of someone who has been performing for the entirety of her life—and she nearly has,” said American Songwriter in the track’s premiere. “The singer/songwriter first took the stage at the age of five as a backup singer for her parents’ bilingual Latin folk band Sol y Canto. She later picked up the classical guitar, and then the electric guitar, to begin cultivating a sound that was uniquely hers.”

Amador, who describes “Timing” as “50% cynical, 50% hopeful, and 100% fun to groove to,” wrote the song after meeting a special someone. Spirited drums and horns frame her big voice in a chorus that playfully asserts “I’m getting tired of being right/why am I right again?” Of the song she says, ”I knew that the connection was right, but I could sense that the timing wasn’t. It had happened with almost every relationship I had been in, and I was getting tired of that predicament,” she continues. “This song became a way of letting out my frustrations, processing the relationship, and ultimately a song for tuning back in: with my intuition and with my love for myself.”

Alisa Amador is a connector. Her upcoming mini-album, Narratives, is a six-song snapshot in time. It’s a deep look at a person stumbling through life in two languages—English and Spanish—and in many states of mind about it all. Her crystal-clear vocals are so effortless throughout Narratives that it’s almost easy to forget how technically talented she is, until she moves from almost-spoken-word territory to a powerful chorus without hesitation or illustrates a repetitive refrain that’s so affecting it feels like you might want to live inside it for a little while.

“The word ‘narratives’ encompasses not only the existing cultural messages that hurt people individually and collectively,” she says, “but also the revolutionary power of writing ourselves new narratives; rejecting a culture of fear; and catalyzing a culture of honesty, bravery and self-love in the process.”

When listening to Amador’s music, her time spent immersed in Latin folk and jazz is undoubtedly present in her own songs, written in both English and Spanish. But there is also pop, funk, soul, and something uniquely her own. Her specialty is sparking connection, across both listeners and musical styles. Working with producer Daniel Radin (The Novel Ideas, Future Teens), Narratives concentrates on the journey of Amador’s live set, taking listeners through songs that may elicit a laugh, bring introspection, offer a cathartic cry or encourage a sing-along.

The genre-bending effort is as empowering as it is heart-wrenching. These songs  explore themes of romance and heartbreak, of chaos and healing, exposing systems of oppression and shining a light on the intricacies of the human condition. They might break your heart open, but by the end, it will be mended, uplifted and stronger—a ‘Life and Love Survival Kit' in the form of a bilingual EP.

“These songs are a reflection of the world I am moving through, with all of its joy, its sorrow, its confusion and its rage,: she reveals. “Each song is a processing of personal experience, framed within my larger cultural backdrop of New Englander, Latinx, cis-gendered woman, young adult, twin, daughter, and so on. I’m just trying to create a space for myself and all my conflicting identities to fit in, and it seems like I’m helping listeners feel the same way in the process.”  Click HERE to pre-order Narratives.
